BUNGEE or TIE DOWN placement
« on: September 04, 2017, 02:49:45 PM »
I'm FINALLY ready to commit to permanently adhering my bungee/tie downs to my board.  Need to get some ideas about placement.  I'll be SUPing with my dog (50#, med sized dog), so I'd love feedback on where best to mount the tie downs on my 10'6" Riviera.  Thanks!:D

My first board was a 2013 Riviera Select 10'6. It came with four deck tie downs. I thought all the Riviera 10'6 boards had tie downs. Is yours an older model maybe?

Ultimately, you want the bungees to go over the deck pad just forward of the handle. The deck pad will help keep stuff from sliding around and make it easier to get to. There should be plenty of room along the rail to stick them. If that's where the dog sits, then you'll have to go forward of the deck pad.

I'd go with six tie downs. Four doesn't hold stuff in place very well.

Personally, I'd leave the dog on shore or at home with someone.

I've done a few boards now and I'd recomend 4 and keep them close to the deck pad.

I had these on one of my boards and they worked really well.

Those are my all-time favorite NSI product.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Thanks for your help and input. I'm taking all of your comments into consideration EXCEPT leaving my dog on the beach! LOL!  He's my paddle pal. Sure I'll SUP without him here and there, but he's "on board" (for the most part) to stay.  SUP dawg?!  :-*

Are those suction cups I see in the picture?

That seems like a great way to experiment with different location options for your tie downs.

I think I would want the dog sitting just ahead of the handle. If he needs more room, you could add some more traction ahead of the pad.

Another option for your tie downs might be to put them on the tail of the board. The NSI pads would be perfect for that.

BADGER: Yes, those are suction cups.  I just couldn't commit! LOL!  I finally decided on a location ... pretty much right where you see them with the other 2 being about 20" toward the nose.  I really wanted him to stay away from the nose and back on MY part of the traction pad for the most part (as you suggested: just ahead of the handle), but, just in case, I put another traction pad in front of the one I stand on.  The other set of tie down grommets goes alongside the forward pad.  So far so good.  Thanks for your input!

DavidJohn: Thanks for your input and photo.  Your pic was so helpful.  Ultimately, my tie downs are now in place pretty much as shown in the photo you posted.   8) :D
