Custom Surf Ceramics
« on: January 14, 2017, 04:46:31 PM »
I'm sure some of you N. East coasties know Gill W. I don't know his Zoner name, but he spreads the Aloha when he visits SoCal. I just ran into him at the Dana Point harbor today. He showed me his new custom 9'4 Infinity round nose Blur. Looks like a perfect board for him. Gill is a great pottery artist and puts his SoCal surf touch on some of his work. A couple years ago he gave me a Custom SanO coffee mug he made. Today he gave a custom SanO poke bowl. I stoked with growing collection. Mahalo' Gill.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Funny, I was just thinking the other day how bored I was w/my plain 'ol Corningware white coffee mug(s). These look nice!
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

There are few things more relaxing than throwing pots. I need to set up  corner of my shop for it, though it's messy and it tends to spread. It's as bad as glassing for that.  I have a wheel, extruder, rolling mill and kiln. Just need to get off my ass and put it back together.

I like that glaze. I got pretty deep into experimental glaze formulations when I threw pots a zillion years ago. (30?  40??). I did a set of bowls with a uranium glaze just for the hell of it. Beautiful yellow, as long as you don't mind a few alpha particles in your soup.
