Crawlin' In Nicaragua
« on: December 13, 2016, 02:53:48 PM »
My first trip to Nicaragua is in the books! What an amazing week. Stayed in central Nic at a surf camp called SOLID from 12/3 to 12/11. Steps to the surf was a treat as was a consistent swell all week. No sup though and when I connected w/Creek and told him that he dubbed me "Crawler", which I had never heard before and made me lol! I shot over 100GB of raw vid and about 5 GB of hi res stills. So far I've been dragging getting everything edited and uploaded but here's a taste.
I went w/my wife on Spirit out of AC w/a short lay over in Fort Lauderdale. ($300 round trip plus one piece of shared/checked luggage for $60 also round trip). No boards packed because I rented at the camp. Nice stable they had too. I was a touch worried I wouldn't be able to prone it for a whole week but I managed quite a few good waves every day for the whole week. Lucky me!
They had a sup there but it was seriously THE worst sup in Nic! It was a molded plastic Lifestyle, "Freestyle" model. The same plastic your typical kayaks are made of. And to make matters worse it was missing both of it's generic plastic twin fins and one of the deck plugs so it took on water. It was near impossible to paddle straight. I only jumped on it the last day of trip because, well, I'm a sweeper!  :P
Links here to about 1/3 of the pictures I took. I still have to upload the shots I have from our trip to the city Leon, they are amazing.

These are the four boards I rode and the "Freestyle" sup.

9'0" Stewart- 6" trailer w/side bites

7'2" Rusty "Piranha"

6'4" T. Paterson "Power Pill"

7'2" "Iron Hammer" funshape set up as a twin w/the center fin of the thruster set missing (quite loose).

Sunsets were stunning!

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Cool pics Marc - glad you had fun.  ..it does make Nosara look like Carmel however.  No marxist rebels collecting tolls? ..how's the belly?

lol, belly's ok. I stuck w/bottled water and stayed away from the tap water. Also the ice at the camp was made from bottled water. No rebels, everyone seemed quite peaceful thankfully.

Not sure what you mean by this.

Thanx for scopin', SUPvol. Here're da cams. The Canon belongs to the surf camp. The Panasonic is mine and I do frame grabs off the video.

Cook'ster..  20yrs ago Nosara was in the middle of nowhere-soon Costa Rica but there was still wood-fired pizza, German food and plenty of gringos.  Your village looks waay primitive by comparison. (Carmel-by-the-Sea is where Clint Eastwood was mayor) Nice to see your wife shares adventure.  Mine talks about bus tours of Rome or a barge on the Seine.   Cheers.

Wow, looks like you scored mucho waves! Nice that you had a whole quiver of boards to ride too.  That 7-2 Ironhammer sounds like one I'd like to try. Thanks for posting, great shots!

Thanx SpaceCoast and covesurfer for checking out my kitchen once again. Love whippin' up a recipe every now and again!

I knew about Clint and Carmel. He's always been one of my fav actors. Ever since my dad took me to See "Dirty Harry" when I was really young and told me not to tell mom! Nic is def a bit behind CR in development but it's on it's way forward.
