FL Gulf Coast recommendations

Thinking of taking road trip with family for spring break and checking out all the beautiful remote beaches along the Gulf Coast of Florida.  I would bring along my own SUP and windsurfing gear. Can anyone make some recommendations on places/beaches we should stop at to SUP waves & flat water (and windsurf)? Also looking for family friendly areas where the kids could play around the beach etc while I play:-) Also places where we could kayak as a family.

I don't know anything about Pine Island/Captiva area but it looks attractive and quite remote. Fort De Soto, Lido, Long Key areas? Or even farther north along Fort Walton Beach area? Other?
