River and lake board for camping, first board shootout!

Like many of the folks I think you would be happy with an inflatable too. Having lived in the Houston area for many years, I know that strong wind on Lake Conroe is rarely an issue, and standing a bit higher on an iSUP is not much of an issue. On the paddle something like the Warner with some RSP paddle edge guard would be fine for Class I water and the lighter paddle a lot nicer to use all day.
Also falling on an inflatable while not a lot softer than a hard board, will not damage it. Don't forget to use the plastic fin that comes with the iSUP on the rivers and buy a better fin for the lake. Lastly with your budget you can essentially buy any inflatable. Good luck.

I've got a 2014 Red Paddle Race (12'6" x 30") is sell you. It is a great board that I got in August last year and immediately used on a self support camping trip with my family on Leigh Lake in Grand Teton National Park. The 2015 and 2016 Race are 28" wide, this one is 30 and it is a great touring board.
