I have the pink painted version of the Riviera Advantage Adjustable (carbon 2 piece) and I hate hitting the adjustment clamp when I swap hands.  It seems like, as long as the gap between pieces was small, I could cut off the clamp and glue the two sections to make a fixed paddle.

Other than the result being a bit silly looking, is there something I'm missing that makes this a bad idea?

Sell it and just get a fixed paddle.  It will be way lighter and paddle better.

Toss it on the classified section and buy a nice new one like baddog said (or buy a quality used one from the classified section)!

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'm just starting out so I don't want to spend a few hundred dollars to shave off a couple of ounces (my paddle is 18 ozs).  I'll figure something out.

Nope, it will work fine. Once you get the length you like, you might cut some of the excess off the inner shaft. Leave three inches plus any additional length you feel you might use in the future. If you want to hot glue it, it helps to file a light flat in the last inch or so at end of the inner shaft.

Yeah, I need off the equipment merry-go-round.  I don't know how that adjustable lock works, but it may be possible to heat gun it off, cut part of the long section off and glue it back on???  I'd take it by your local friendly SUP shop for a bit of advice.

Adjustables are not all that satisfying. If the lock bothers you and you cut it off (just use a hacksaw), you can still adjust a paddle that's been hot glued together, you just can't do it on the water. A hairdryer or heat gun enables adjustment. I do it all the time.
