LEAKING!!  I just weighed the board and it is 25lbs.  Don't you think that's too heavy for an 8'5?  Gotta be water in there.

...Gotta be water in there.
Zoo - I don't have to drill holes... I got BIG ones here and BIG ones there, and when I put the board out in the sun it goes 'drip, drip, drip' like the antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea they've been reporting in the UK!

You Think?
My 18' unlimited weighs 26 lbs. My new 9'4 x 24" long board is 12 lbs.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Is 3lbs a reasonable weight for deck pad and fins? Re: Would you drill...

I modified this thread title because I have new information.

Here's the story:  I weighed the board again this morning and it came out much lighter.  I think my scale was wonky, the scale is a piece of junk anyway.

Found the manufacturer's website, where it listed original weight without pad and fins. Mine weighs in at 3lbs more than that.  I figure 3lbs heavier is an appropriate weight after adding pad and fins, don't you think?

Therefore, I don't think I'll try to drain the board, but I'm going to address the lousy repairs.  Maybe put a couple layers of s-glass and epoxy around the handle, to be safe.

Correct decision made:  I decided to drill a couple small holes in the nose of the board in question, tilted it up and, lo and behold, water came out.  #$%^&!!!

So now begins the drying process.  I've got it standing up, shop vac is gorilla taped to the nose where the holes are.  Routed around the handle with a Dremel to help with air flow.  I'll run it like that for several days.  That process worked perfectly on my last wet board.  After that, I'll fill the routed out area with epoxy filler paste, cure and sand that, and reglass around the handle.

Sounds like fun, are you seeing air flow at the handle?

None!  It's always a mystery to me.

OK, began routing around the handle and found voids, probably from exothermic reaction in the original manufacture.  At that point, I decided to follow Pono Bill's suggestion and completely remove the handle.  Gonna dry it out with the shop vac for a week or so, then do the repair.

I'm not sure if want to even put a handle back in it, since I've had so much trouble with handle leakage on several boards.  I'll probably fill and sand the area, glass over it, and put a paddle loop for carrying.  It's a pretty convenient way to go.
