In a sense this is going back to the sports roots (sorta kinda but not exactly).

I love all you shortboarders out there, but this the goal for me.  Love that smooth transition, easy walk to the nose, and fearless style.

Always fun to watch good longboard flow.
The music sounded like it was stolen from an 80's sitcom, but hey....  :)

Interesting that he looks to be using sort of a "Twin center fin" type set-up.

I am liking this flurry of attention to the "longboard" segment of SUP.

As I mentioned, this is sort of going back to SUPs roots.  Without going into the whole chicken or the egg discussion of who did it first, the simple fact is that longboards are what were originally used.  Pops Ah Choy originally started with a Hobie tandem board which was in fact a type of longboard (wide round nose).   His sons Leroy and Bobby used either tandem boards or the big honking Waikiki rental boards.  Laird and Dave started with tandem boards and even the first actual boards Laird had made for him were specifically for the purpose of not lying prone and were longboard in shape and style and made with wave riding in mind.  They just had more size and volume than a standard longboard.  Rick Thomas originally started with a Munoz Super/Ultra Glide.  This leads me to conclude that SUP was originally a direct branch off of (or maybe a bastardization of) longboarding and I don't think we would even be here if it wasn't for the longboard resurgence.  As the sport caught on and progressed, shapes became more of an entity of their very own.

I like how he talks about working with the wave and using the wave as opposed to slashing  ripping burning etc.  I have always thought he was so easy to watch surf. In some ways the way he is so smooth  makes me think of how smooth slater is and how he uses the waves force to ride as opposed to shredding it smooth is fast fast is smooth

Rhythm, flow, and fun...and some of the most perfect waves on the planet!  8) Kalama is one chiseled male! Seems WAY more down to earth than our "Lord Laird".
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Beautiful and very stoke producing vid.  That is quite a nice and advanced longboard shape, Pat Rawson maybe?

If you like Tudor, then you gotta watch "Longer", if you haven't already.  I don't even like Tudor, but it's one of my fav DVD's
