Sweet vid - thanks for sharing.  What sort of GoPro setup do you have?  I saw your board at the factory this am.  That thing is gorgeous.  You will surely be stoked.

MISC

Thanks!  Stoked to hear my board is looking good :)

My gopro setup is a hand built carbon fiber "tripod", works great for DW and small waves.  I'm still playing around with the attachment points, I have yet to try it in some size.  I'm stoked on the light weight and how stable it is, and can't wait to try it on my new Stretch sup.  If there are any big wave surfers that want be a beta tester I'd love to make one for them and see that video.
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

Yesterday we went SUS in surf that for me is all about the cutback, rolling mush with big open soft faces.  At this spot I prefer a longer board with a narrow tail, since I don't currently have a board like that I rode my simsup.  I struggled and was unsuccessful at catching the bigger outside waves and so I had tons of fun riding the inside waves.  We traded boards and I rode SUPalon's 9'6" focus classic longboard, narrower and less volume than my simsup I struggled with the tippyness but once I got it going I was more stable and able to pick off one of the bigger waves.  This shape was super fun on these type of waves and I was surprised that I was able to catch a wave on such a low volume board.  I'm stoked to receive and try my new custom at this spot.   :)

Here's the video from our session yesterday:

Wow what a beautiful day, looks like you had some really fun rides.  The soloshot is fascinating to me, I have spent many a day operating a camera and watching the waves going off from the beach, and I also did not film one of the best sessions I have ever seen because the waves were to good to pass up and I needed to be out there.  Seems like POV cams and soloshots allow us to film and play in the waves at the same time - win win  :)

Have you tried the soloshot with the camera zoomed in or with a telephoto lens?  Where do you put it when you are surfing?

I've noticed my simsup comes alive in smaller walled up waves, a friend called them little zippers.  Seems like your v-box did the same, and on the offshore softer waves it seemed like that shape was slowing you down, did it feel that way to you?

"Have you tried the soloshot with the camera zoomed in or with a telephoto lens?  Where do you put it when you are surfing?"
The cam is zoomed in. Maybe not quite as tight as I'd like though. SOLOSHOT recommends something like 20 feet or so to each side of subject to ensure it captures all the action. Alot of times you'll find after reviewing footage that you're off center so it helps to adjust a bit in editing to center yourself. Thus becoming more "Self Centered"!   ;D :P
It should be placed strategically w/several factors in mind depending on what type of break you're at. For a beach break w/peaks scattered you want it pretty much centered so you can catch waves up and down the beach. For a point you want it placed so you're surfing into the cam, not away. Also consider the lighting, where the sun is. For sun on horizon rising you need to try and backlight your frame and that can be tough depending on which direction you'll be surfing.
"on the offshore softer waves it seemed like that shape was slowing you down, did it feel that way to you?"
Hmmm, hard for me to say. The thing just feels FAST! Probably not the best choice in stiff offshores. For my weight and ability anyways. My 8'0" Assassin is really the board I go to for those more challenging days. This vid was one of THE biggest days we had here in NJ all summer. VERY challenging waves.

And if you're fancying a SOLOSHOT3....GO FOR IT! I pre-ordered and it's going to be the most advanced SS to date!

Nice waves! Super glassy and you and that Stretch are getting along nicely! Also enjoyed the edit on ur vid. Curious about that location. How safe would a SOLOSHOT be? Looks to be a fair way out from those cliffs. Can always lock the thing up though.

Lots of property theft in Santa Cruz. A SOLOSHOT might be OK further down on the rocks or on the beach, but I wouldn't leave it on the esplanade above the cliffs unless somebody was babysitting it.

Thanks!

I would be concerned about leaving the soloshot unattended, I envision some kind of lock box with a strong window that is u-locked to a post or something.  I used to surf and leave a few boards in the bed of my pickup and they were fine, that was years ago and I have heard that is an unsafe thing to do there now.

Session number 2:

Cheat I forgot to message you...next time.  FYI - I saw a triton and a hammer in the lineup
