Care and feeding of custom EPS boards
« on: July 31, 2015, 08:23:23 AM »
Ok guys, I've been tortured/blessed with work and travel and so I've not had a chance to finish the last hour or so of sanding and get my final pics up. They are coming this weekend. I am however surfing it tomorrow, ride reports coming as I transition down.

I have a question now that I have a custom, non sandwich board. I'm aware of the greater ding-ability (and easier fix ability) but what about delams?

I want to be able to lock my board in the car. I have a gore tex vent, am I ok to do that in hot SoCal summer? I know people heat cure their boards and I did a little of that so am I good as long as the vent is there?

Any other tips?

basically you just need to avoid direct sources of heat so not leaving it under the windscreen or in direct sunlight. A friend recently did not do this and melted his week old new carbon board. Best thing to do would be to get some good reflective sun shades that you use in camper vans that stop the car heating up in the first place. I made some from silver bubble rap insulation stuff and some suckers and even on a super hot day the inside can still be quite cool.

That's the best way to go, better than a board bag as well, and MUCH cheaper.  I just get an inexpensive windshield shade, around five bucks, and just custom cut them to fit my side windows for my F-150 in Florida.  Be sure to make a good template first. If you cut them just right they will tuck into the window gasket valley an not require suction cups that can fail over time.  You'll get addicted to them and end up using them all the time.  Worth it to have a comfortable car.  It will save your interior as well.

Thanks guys. My rear cargo area is pretty tinted and I have shades for my windshield. I'll probably cut a couple of side window pieces for when it's blazing and be good. I also always have a towel to toss over as well. At the beach we don't have as much of an issue with flat out heat as we do in town. It's desert here once you cross the hills.
