Are you SUPing on the 4th?  If so, where?

I may risk it with some dawn patrol, since waves are supposed to pick up a little.

Santa Cruz yesterday around 5 was gridlocked with people fleeing from the inland heat for the 4th, they're all here and waltzing about and foaming at the mouth Santa Cruz crazy holiday style.

That means the water will be also gridlocked with groms, floaters, paddling non-catchers, family conventions etc. but who knows, it is never absolutely predictable.

Heh, Heh, I'm a Santa Cruz curmudgeon, maybe that's part of my surfing evolution, crusty old screaming water fart!

Ahh, don't be so hard on yourself...you're not crusty.  :)   I'll probably do a short dawn patrol and get out before the crowds begin to show up.  It's nuts here on the 4th, the one time of year I hate being in Newport.  Love it otherwise.

Might be a opportunity with some of PCH closed off North of the Pier for the staging of the Parade.
Will generally cut down on the crowds as parking can be limited...

First thing in the morning, in North Carolina, I'll be towing a dead chicken, I'm working on my speed paddling.
It takes a quiver to do that.

I will most likely do the normal weekend morning surf session. It was nice this am.

The fireworks in Honolulu are off magic island, a man-made peninsula that separates Waikiki from Ala Moana.  Some day I will paddle out and watch from the water. Maybe tomorrow is someday?

Good tip Ralph.  Thanks!!! Is it closed both North bound and South bound?  Maybe a good time to ride the bike over and surf the cliffs.

WW--If you come paddle Newport Beach midday, you can do your speed work just trying not to get run over by the crazy boaters.

Careful with that chicken,an 11foot alligator came on shore in Holden Beach,NC today. I've seen a lot of gators when paddling the ICW here but this is the first on the beach.

Between the Pier and Golden West...(Closed Off)
You will have to come in through the back streets to park close to PCH
in that span...generally light with mostly locals that live within walking distance..
Waves were too small for me this morning with the low tide...tomorrow ?

Hong Kong. It's the 4th here already. We have our 7th time trial of the year with around 55 racers (OC, SS and Sup) at 10am followed by a July 4th BBQ.

I will be SUSing first thing in the morning as usual.  This morning was already crazy with the crowds at my usually empty spot.  It should get interesting tomorrow since I'll be SUSing before an ESA competition at a local tourist hotspot.

We've had a decent south swell here on Maui the last four days and it looks like it's going to keep coming...

But... it's July 4th and the road along the ocean all the way from the pali to Lahaina town is parked solid.  Almost every inch of beach has a tent on it.  And the full moon tides are super low in the morning when the conditions are best.  We did it yesterday and felt great to get out of the water with no cuts or urchin pokes. and it's uber hot and everyone's on edge with the full moon madness.

So I'll be letting this one slide right on by me.  Simply not worth it.  I did do Costco this morning and that was sufficient reminder of why I avoid crowds.  Out in the line up it'll just be worse.  No way it can end well.

Had originally planned on it, but old good friends are visiting us for the week. Today is day one, all day at the beach and grilling tonight with plenty of adult beverages to go around while the kids hang out. Lots of great craft beer so you know how that goes.

I will be avoiding the crowds on the beach tomorrow.  Got out tonight for a nice paddle in a little chop and hopefully the crowds will all be gone by Sunday night and I can get back out again for a bit.
