Anyone using a Starboard Freeride?
« on: June 23, 2015, 11:09:05 PM »
Been quite awhile since I've posted on here. Relocated to Washington from back east. I'm ready to get back at it. Looking for user info on the Freeride. I can get one locally for a good price and there was a little chatter about it here and seabreeze last year. Looking for something for the Sound and don't have room for a 14. Any thoughts?

We have four of the Freeride boards in our demo fleet and they are great cruisers.  Not as fast as dedicated raceboards but they are faster and track and glide better than the all-round boards that most beginners tend to buy.  So if you are not planning to surf much and want a user friendly shape, these are good boards and are pretty good on downwinders too.

You might want to PM EasyRider (Warren) on this forum, I believe he helped design the Freeride models.

I agree with Robert.  Great boards for casual cruising.  Very comfortable ride.  Faster than surf shapes.

Thanks Robert, will do, and a big belated congrats to you and your shop!

Thanks Raf. I've been paddling and surfing a Laird 12'1" and until recently had a Lahui Kai race board. The Freeride seems like an in between. Looks like you confirmed it. Bummed I never got up to see you and paddle Maine before my move out here.

The XL was tested on the water and seemed ok for cruising and exploring.  There is a pronounced double concave bottom at the nose switching to a single concave farther back.

Guess I have my indicator off. Missed many of these responses. Thanks for the pics Ralph! Thanks too  gjb for the review! Still have the board? Any thoughts now? I guess now I need to demo it. Sounds like it would be great for me here on Puget Sound. I'm 15 min from Chambers Bay if anyone wants to see it from the water
