Deck Wells
« on: August 13, 2015, 05:58:47 AM »
Hoping someone knows how to stop deck wells from forming where I stand on my board.   Every board I have made; over time wells begins to form on the deck where I stand. I am using 1.5 EPS foam.  Glassed with with 6oz e + 4oz s + 6oz s deck patch.  I am 195lbs.  Any help with this is much appreciated.

you need to increase the core density or bulk up the skin thickness in some way so ether more glass or a sandwich of some sort weather it be corematt, cork, bamboo, wood ect

Instead of one 6oz deck patch, try two 4oz, at +45 and -45 to the stringer for a deck patch. Won't completely eliminate them but should reduce them.

Try a veneer--especially bamboo--in a sandwich. Or do a PVC sandwich, or you might use a patch of carbon.

Deck denting is tough to avoid.  And yes, you need to build up layers of material (cloth, veneers, composites, etc.) or use a higher density blank to help minimize them.  At the expense of overall weight.  My personal feeling is don't treat them like defects.  Rather, look at them as a ergonomic features in your board.  This is your boards way of conforming to you.  I like to know where my feet are without having to look.  Just my .02 cents.
