How is best to cut vector net?
« on: June 26, 2015, 03:29:11 AM »
I was going to play around with some vector net but I got stumped straight away! How do you cut the dam stuff? Normal scissors don't work and the way I normally do it for Kevlar by roughing up the bottom blade doesn't work ether. Any one got any tips ?

When I use carbon I use sheet metal cutters (aka tin snips).  I don't know if that's necessary, but i have a pair handy in the shop and am not sure why I ended up using them, probably because the scissors got dull over the years.  I assume vector net is a mix of carbon and glass so they should work(?)  Or is there some other tough material in it?

its basically Kevlar but because it is so large a weave it makes it a pain in the ass to cut!

I have a pair of kevlar shears that I don't use for anything else. I haven't used them in a long while, kevlar or any aramid is a bitch. I imagine they'd work for vector net, but it would still be bitchy.

These are the ones I use--same manufacturer as made's but a more permanent solution. Never tried the lightweight ones.

Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

All sorted the solution was to actually rough both too and bottom blades so it grips better and then it cuts as good as I would expect. Many thanks for the suggestions
