Will vacc on the bamboo, then put in recessed handle, then laminate, over handle - sound right?

While it's got an adjustable guide, I don't use that as it doesn't cut straight. More control just to put down masking tape on the board to mark out the rail bands and cut along the tape.

Doesn't the tape burn?

Tape doesn't burn. Turn the wire up to glowing then dial it back a bit.

You can save, print, email, and have boards cnc'd from the free version of Shape 3D. There are a number of features you don't get with the free version, but it's basically a functional 'lite version'. I've had a number of boards cnc'd from it. I have a large format plotter, so I can also print full size templates of the board and rails for the ones I hand shape .
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Thank you. Can you import an Aku Shaper file into the free version of Shape 3D?

All the import, export and convert features don't work in the free version. The recessed foot well tools are missing from the free version as well. I've found a work around for that ,but it's a little tricky. I don't know that even the full version would import an Aku file? Charlie  (SupUK) has a full version. He'd know.

You mean like a recessed foot well in the tail of your board for your back foot?

The recessed deck where you stand on race boards. It drops the deck by usually 1.5" to 2" in the middle to lower the boards center of mass. Not really something you want on a surfboard. Not a feature you'll need for surfing designs.

Oh right, duh. :-[ I haven't owned a raceboard yet so I totally forgot about the recessed deck.

Import I beleve is for things like taking scans and export is for sending the files as other types of cad files. I beleve I can open aku files in shape 3d to cut them but have never tried, send it over if you want and I will give it a try.

I played around with the free version of Shape 3DX a little more and I can import AKU Shaper files into it. So far I figured out that you can NOT do the following with the free version: no wire version, no meshes, no definition slices, no level lines with fixed step, no showing color of concaves, and no display of waterline.

If I pay to have the rocker cut, do I email them the same .s3dx file I use to open the board design in the program?

yes just email that file. although if your getting the rocker cut you may as well get the hole board cut as it will basically cost the same unless its getting hot-wired? perhaps start a new thread and we can discuss on there there are various options you could do
