so true I remember  sitting on the beach at Ponto and looking in the sand and finding little tiny shells  many intact  all 1mm or smaller

Cool. My wife and I have a collection of sand from around the world. We spend a lot of out vacations on beaches around the world and for the past 20 years we have brought back a small baggie of sand. We have glued then to a 3X5 index card and had a display of them on the wall. Problem is that we don't have a wall big enough, but we still keep on collecting them. Their differences truly are fantastic. It always fun when someone looks at them and can identify where they come from. Its also cool that in a small area, such as San Diego, you'll find significant differences in sand from different beaches.
