The zip mount is very light weight.  There is a square rubber gasket on the bottom that be turned either way.  That way you don't have to connect so many pieces to get it pointed in the direction you want.  And the top part has grooves for the zip ties going both ways also.
You can find them at MicBergsma.tv

Good place to go for fillers and other goodies too. I watch a lot of his videos. Any deaf guy that makes fun of his own quacking is worth watching, but he's really sharp on all aspects of video--especially gopro

This looks like an easy way to mod a standard adhesive mount to a zip tie mount. And I need to motivate some paddle cam again! The pov is so cool when it comes togeth!

Pono mount made! surfercook variation! Didn't have a rivet gun so I used stainless screws, LOTTA filing. Sealed the filed screws underside w/silicone after filing so no scratching paddle shaft. Also went w/the DIY zip tie mount instead of tape. Fotos to come as soon as the waves get worthy.  8)

One tip on using these. You can get a great shot with the camera just below your lower hand. Play with the distance but even a foot up from the blade makes it way easier to swing and paddle. I use mine around 6" below my lower hand.

I tried a paddle mount farther from the blade my first go w/it a few yrs ago. It was placed in between my hands mostly because I had no clue.  While it did substantially reduce swing weight I was not pleased w/the pov. I'll give it a shot at the 6" below lower hand mark and get back. I REALLY like the super pulled back pov you get with it right against the paddle blade. A few times it's been tubed! Might just hafta pony up the 199US for a GoPro Sesh!

Thanks for this Bill!

I was searching the internet for "broom holder" type mounts for my pole camera and then I remembered this thread.  I am going to borrow your design and see if I can modify it as a quick/wipeout release system for my pole camera.

Stoked!
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

Posted my GoPro Session paddle mount in another thread but will post here also.  Goal was to make something with zero weight, simple to install, and allow the camera to rotate 180.

Inspired by the simplicity of anonsurfer's design, I made a trip to the hardware store today.  The 10 feet of galvanized strapping was $4.25.  I added some spare rubber that I had lying around on the inside of the loop for padding/grip and covered it with black duct tape.

This setup is so light & no-fuss that I might actually use it. I love the size of the Session.

I was a little worried about if it'd slip around the shaft in the white wash. I added a bit of extra tape and a kickstand. It feels pretty solid now.  Fingers crossed.

Looking good surfafrica! I like the kickstand. I gave the Pono mount a shot and it didn't preform too well. Mostly because of mu shotty build. One of the screws came detached and the zip ties didn't hold it tight to shaft. The whole mount kept sliding around. The Pono mount pov was close but maybe not quite as tight as the handlebar.  Need to get back to work!

For the zip mount on my bicycle, I used three zip ties and pulled them tight using a pair of pliers.  That reduced most of the slippage.

I tried the 2/3 cut carbon tube piece as coupling/snap off point for my camera pole, took me a few cuts to get it right, and it works great as a wipeout quick release system.

Here is some video from the first test today:

More Pono mount testing. I fastened the clip mount to the cut shaft w/stainless screws AND Loktite marine epoxy. Then fastened the entire assembly to paddle shaft w/two zip ties and two runs of electrical tape. The epoxy came undone in a hurry but the mount held at the zip tie fine. One run of tape also blew out.
Video is not in frame as good as the bicycle mount. Something about it's placement on the shaft. I will give it another test at some point. Maybe the extension clip will help instead of the flush one.
Top pics above the mount shots are the good ones showing a full board, wave, rider, beach, and sky. These were shot AFTER I tweaked the cam about 5 degrees towards shaft.
Shots below mount pics are the throw aways where no board is showing at all. Cam was pulled fully back away from shaft.
