EZA foam core, glassed with honeycomb skin and a basalt fiber reinforced fabric!

Ok, this one is new to me. I was just reading in the new issue of surfing mag. and came across this at a company call Lib Tech Surfboards ( http://www.lib-tech.com/surfing/technology/ ). They use a foam called EZA ( http://www.google.com/patents/US20080064774 ). Not sure how thick the honeycomb skin is? Most of the ones I find seem too thick. Then there is the Basalt fiber reinforcement! ( http://www.compositesworld.com/articles/basalt-fibers-alternative-to-glass ).

Anyone ever use or see these used?

I've seen the boards. They are pretty cool and seem pretty bulletproof and light. I'm sure regular surfers will hate them as Kelly isn't riding one.

I love the progression in materials but I haven't seen any of this stuff used anywhere else so far.

Basalt is used by surfboard builders. My supplier was selling it.

I saw those boards last year at Sacred Craft and they are insanely strong. I don't know anything about the material but the guy at their booth put one of their boards on the ground deck down and jumped up and down on it. He was a big guy too. If I recall correctly, the boards have the strength of epoxy but the flex of polyester.
