I placed the fin in and tried to move it towards the front of the board but that didnt't go as far as I wanted.

I had to reattach the small square plate. Place it first and then the fin went in. Is that the right way? Will see if there is a youtube video of how to do this?

Will other fins, like from FCS fit this board?

Check this vid.. [diference being you need a screw driver].. Notice at the 1.35 mark the fin is tiped back on an angle and rocked back and forth as you try and move it along in the fin box slot.
