Suggestions for an all-carbon paddle
« on: August 10, 2014, 06:12:48 PM »
I'm looking to buy my first paddle.  I would love to get the QB Flyweight, x-small blade, but it's pricey.  I want all-carbon (NOT carbon and fiberglass ... just carbon fiber), with a stiff blade and shaft that will be good to propel me through mostly rivers and lakes, some ocean.  Anyone tried a paddle, that fits this description, that they really like?  AND that won't break the bank? ;) Thanks!  I'm female, 5'5", athletic.  I'd love to hear from some of the other SUP ladies out there.   :)

I just bought a Kialoa Insanity paddle and love it.  It's very light, carbon shaft and a carbon/plastic composite blade.  The composite blade makes it very durable yet extremely light, as light as most other all carbon paddles.  I paid $270 for it plus tax.  If you buy one, you might contact JimK one of the sponsors here.  He offered me a better deal than that for the paddle, but I didn't want to wait and found one at a shop by my house.  Sorry Jim.

The three ladies that I paddle with regularly [and do downwinders with] all use the same paddle as me.. The Kialoa Hulu Small..

It's a great ladies paddle.. and I like it to..  :) .. You can see it at the start of this recent DW vid.. It's a very narrow blade compared to most others out there..

Here's a review from Zoner "Weasels Wake":

Topic: Most excellent paddle

"Hea Warren, I need to let you know that the new paddle I got from you blows me away.
Not only is it the exact type of paddle I wanted, shape, size (90 sq. in.), and weight, but it's prolly the most beautiful paddle I've ever seen, love the basswood/carbon blend, w/ all carbon handle and blade backing.  I'll try very hard not to beat the crap out of it.
Highly recommended."
