dilemma.
« on: January 22, 2014, 11:26:54 PM »
How many of you wake up in the morning when there is a nice swell and face the dilemma that I constantly face? To ride my super fun SUP or to ride my reallly fun short board? Most days the SUP wins out but there are days when its a really tough choice..

Wish I still had the choice but the state of my shoulders makes the price
too high.
I would rather be standing up if I'm honest, just so much more fun.

Though I do miss being an accepted member of the lineup.

i agree with you. My bros i surf with are super cool when were all on our "surf boards" but when i break out my SUP there like do we know you??? ha ha... I always tell them if they only would try it once. They see the waves i can catch on my Sup and I know there secretly wanting to try it.  There dam pride just won't let them...

I don't miss lay down surfing a bit although I'm entering Geezer status (56). Stand up is so much easier and more fun.

There isn't much anti-Sup sentiment here in the Northeast. There may be small pockets of it here and there but I have yet to encounter any.

No dilemma here.  When it is head high and over I'm proning either short board or long board, depending on the break.

No dilemma here, I always have both boards with me and then it depends on conditions and how much effort I want to expend that day.

No dilemma  here at 60.  I can barely bend over to tie my shoe let along take off from a long board.  Short board ( a distant memory) I surf at terramar ( (dolphin house) a lot (less though at the point)  and know people in the water by sight at first I got some stink eye but after a while of calling waves for the inside now  I get a lot of respect. Now  guys will sit  and whisper to me .... Is there anything out there?  Laughing al the way  I tell em  yeah it  is just not here yet,  no seriously  I tell the more respectful  guys the truth. I usually let them go first.  cause it cleans out the inside.

Age fixes the problem. Every so often I look at my longboard and think "did I really give that up? Shouldn't I spend a day surfing?"  Then I think about the two nights I'll spend tossing around with my shoulders screaming, and the ten waves I'll ride instead of fifty (or more) and the long paddle out, twice as long coming in. And the answer comes automatically.

I do miss my prone boards, but like everyone before me said, I don't miss the pain in my back, neck and shoulders   Pronung is good for the soul, hard on
the body, SUP is good for the soul and body  it's not really a hard choice

No dilemma when it's shoulder high or bigger...prone all the way.

Waist and below...SUPing.

Waist to chest is where the indecision hits me. I purchased a 6'4" Mini Simmons surfboard a few months ago and it is so fast and maneuverable but lately, and it seems the better I get, I am just having so much fun on the Stand Up. I can go for hours and paddle to a break and have it all to myself and my wave count just goes through the roof. I never thought I would be having this much fun!
