Jimmy Lewis Striker 9'5
« on: October 16, 2013, 01:28:24 AM »
I'm having a close look at this board as it would suit my local break which is a gently sloping beach break perfect for nose riding. Does anyone have any idea on the volume of this board as its not on the website. I know it's 31 wide so it should be pretty stable. Any feed back on this board would be much appreciated. Thanks.  :)

Hi Sharkies,
Look thru the jimmy lewis canada sight. It states; the 9'5" is 147 lts, and the 8'11" is 130  lts.
Good luck!

Thanks Johnnyfive. I was looking at the Australian website but found it on the Canada website. Still keen to know if anyone has ridden one or any feedback.

Three of my friends have (or had) one. I rode it a few times (the 9'5"). Perfect for a longboard feeling in a SUP. Bottom turn, cross step and trim on the front third. Nice grip all the way to the tip gives you nose riding confidence.
Nice board.

Cheers mate. I'm around 90 kgs or around 200lbs. Bit worried about how it might paddle but the width sounds fine.

Never paddled one but did look closely at it too....really nice simple shape with edges where you need them and nicely thinned out.

I've had the 8-11 for a couple years and totally love it, in mushy surf you can take off on the nose, and if you surf it on the tail it goes rail to rail with ease, fast and stable plus bomb proof construction. Great allrounder for small/medium surf. :D

I like longboard style of surfing because I've ridden longboards for a long time before my injury and shift to SUP. The 9'5 might be a better choice for my 200 lb.

Whether a sup or prone rider, I have rarely heard longboarders lament the purchase of a board that they found too long.

I was 200lbs and went from a 9'6" 32" Blair, to an 8'11" 30" and the difference was amazing.  Smaller board was faster, still big enough to catch waves easily, but was just way more fun.  Still nose rides great.  I set the center fin back for nose ride days and put it all the way forward when I want it loose.  Go for the shorter board.

Thanks for that info. The board looks great but am also looking at the Laird Pearson Arrow boards as well.

Sharkies,  I have  a Jimmy Lewis 9'5" Striker, and a large quiver of high quality Sup's. I'm 185 lbs and surf mostly the Outer Banks of NC and Maine. The Striker is the best all around board I've ridden. Everyone who takes a wave on this board loves it.  I think it'll float you fine, and I'm not sure all manufacturers measure volume in the exact same way.  The 9'5" Striker is listed to be 147 liters, but the board floats me better and is more stable than our 8'10" Widepoint. The Striker turns exceptionally well for a 9'5" 31" wide board.  It really can be ripped on in ways other long board style sups cannot. This thing turns, and you don't have to run back to the tail to get it to turn.  It is also a fast board, it makes catching and ridding mushy waves fun, and it's speed allows it to make sections before they close on you.  I suspect they found the perfect combination of flatter rocker(for speed), and V in the tail(for turning). The board is actually a bit thinner than many others of it's same length and width, and I think that allows the rails to be set and carve better.
I'm always looking for another good board to love, and we've ridden a lot of different boards, and bought a lot of boards. I'll be receiving the latest purchase this week, an Infinity Phoenix, which is a "Simmons" style sup.  There is a lot of hype around these boards, I'll look forward to riding it, but so far, my heart belongs to the Striker.

Don't want to hijack this thread but I am considering a striker or the new black and blue 10 footer for longboard style riding or days where the chop is up on the east coast.  I will ride my simsup the rest of the time.  Has anyone been able to see the black and blue yet?  9"5 striker seems really interesting but at 6"3 and 190 wonder if it is going to be stable with chop and backwash.
