Amarican Airlines and SUP's
« on: December 09, 2013, 02:20:36 PM »

Hi There
Has anyone flown on AA with an SUP (under 10.0)? If so what were your experiences? Good or Bad?
Traveling to Nica in March, and usually fly Taca. But AA prices, are good right now.
Thank you
Johnny Five

We flown AA with SUP's a number of times...under 10' is no problemos...
Recommend using a good travel bag for board and paddle...

Went to surf San Pancho and Chacala, in Nayarit, Mexico a couple of years ago.  Brought my 6'2" prone board and flew with American Airlines.  Wrapped my board in about $25 worth of bubble wrap and put it in it's padded board bag.  The trip over was fine; no damage.  When I got home, I found a hole in the center of my board about the size of my fist.  Which is what I wanted to cram into someone face at American Airlines.  They charged me $150 each way to carry my board and damaged my board on top of it and couldn't have cared less about damaging it.

After that, I am reticent to bring any of my boards on American.  I have vowed to rent a board in the future.

I've flown a half dozen times with AA to Hawaii with 2 prone boards, each in a day bag, inside a 6'7" travel board bag from Only @ Midnight.  No damage and the AA folks in Boston don't charge me the $150 headed west...
