wow nice shape>> Is the widest point back of center? and  what do you get out of the bevel on the tail? Extra looseness? I am very intrigued and interested .  what is the board next to the 9'5". what are the volumes of the boards?  What other sizes/ volumes do they come in?

Aloha OUTSIDEWAVE,
Yes...the wide point on Hammer is back from center several inches...but, not as much as Jammer...consequently, the volume distribution is skewed towards the tail...

Here is the main info page:
http://surfingsports.com/hammer.asp

The "Chisel Tail" does several things...it tapers the volume in the tail...it adds a bit of tail rocker...it helps to drain the water off of the deck...and, once board is planing it "fools" the water into thinking it's a couple of inches shorter...it also looks pretty cool...;-)

We can build customs at any volume...production volumes are shown on graphic...

7’11” x 31” x 4.4”: 132 liters (Quad +1)
8’5” x 31” x 4.4”: 140 liters (Quad +1)
8’11” x 31” x 4.4”: 148 liters (Quad +1)
9’5” x 31” x 4.4”: 160 liters (Quad +1)
9’5” x 33” x 4.6”: 178 liters (Quad +1)
10’0” x 31” x 4.4”: 170 liters (Quad +1)
10’3” x 32” x 4.4”: 188 liters (Quad +1)
10’6” x 33” x 4.4”: 198 liters (Quad +1)

We have built them smaller...
7’11” x 30” x 4”: 117 liters (Quad +1)

We also recently built a couple of larger Hammers for fishing and tandem paddling...
10’ x 35” x 4.75”: 205 liters (Quad +1)
10’3” x 32” x 4.6”: 188 liters (Quad +1)
10’3” x 33” x 4.6”: 194 liters (Quad +1)

We do have a number of demo Hammer boards here at our shop in Santa Barbara...best to arrange ahead of a visit...over the weekend every one of our demo boards were checked out...a couple were wait listed...

Update: After several months with the Hammer and probably 30 or so sessions a strange thing has happened to me.  I have always been enticed by the newest and latest innovations, and now I'm not.  I'm sure there are boards that do a particular thing better in the water.  However for the spots I surf the Hammer offers the total package. It's what I want to surf on.  No desire for an extra two inches, new tail shape, more rocker or anything.  Now the only other time I surf something else is when my wife or kids take the hammer for a spin.  This has resulted in my wife investigating the possibility of owning one of her own.  It seems that getting a board sized to fit the rider really applies to this shape. The extra tail volume can get you on a much shorter board and still be comfortable.

Highlights: wave catching ease, lightness, speed, nimble turning and right sized stability. So far it's worked great from ankle slappers to a little over head high (this is also about as big as I like to venture into) and from glass to victory at sea and I'm the only one out.  The board has been very durable, a few minor deck scratches, all done out of the water but nothing other than that so far.  I wouldn't be surprised to own another here soon.  A friend I surf with is about to get one also after an extended demo weekend.

A couple of shots of Zoner "SlatchJim"...the thread starter...on his custom 9'5" Hammer in Santa Barbara this morning...

Thanks Wardog,
I told Marty that if "you want pictures of you, buy a hammer!"  It looked like a smithy out there, I think I counted 4 in the lineup at the first session, and another 3 just down the coast (Man was today fantastic!).  4 hours in the glassy, warm January water and a early dinner at Playa Azul...I feel unworthy. So much fun.  :D

Aloha Jim,
It was great to see Marty ripping on one of my older designs...
Somebody told me that they saw over a dozen of our standard production boards out there, in addition to a bunch of Hammers...there were also a couple of Jammers there as well...

You still in town?
Heading out for DP in a few...

Wow Wardog, I think I'm going to Hide these pics from Marty until Valentines Day to fully capture the good Karma.  ;)  Thanks so much.

Hard to fathom I nearly had to beg her to try SUP. This is a 50 *something* year old woman out there with about 2 years experience surfing, just having a ball, going to town.

Back down south today, I went out at Doho while she had a tournament to coach in.  p.s.  we're already discussing color schemes for the new hammer.  :D

A demo day is a great time to evaluate your current gear.  After riding a number of tempting offerings, some of which I had a blast on, I jumped back on my hammer.  Yep, its still the right board for me and what I'm looking to do SUSing in the conditions I find myself in.  The tired-legged comparison did get me thinking though...

~dream state~ 10-3 to 10-6, 31" wide, slightly wider nose, boardwalking, noseriding special, Thinned out to 165L.  Wardog, we may need to talk.  8)
