Anyone have any ideas?  I'm considering buying fabric and sewing a cover myself.  Any recommendations?

That's what I did. I just took pool noodles (cut to 52") and made a fabric slip cover for them. No florescent pink on my truck.

I take the pipe insulation off the rack when not carrying a board. When you leave them on all the time, they get destroyed by sitting in the sun an are very bad for your gas milage. It is very easy to put them on and off.

I've made pads using rope that came from Home Depot, like $10 for 100', comes in various colors. Only drawback is that it fades in the sun.

And I've used roll bar padding from Jegs.com, covered with colored duct tape.

That's it....looks great, works great and doesn't have some brand posted all over it  Are the slip covers fading?  If no, can you be specific on the material?

It's been two years and they have not faded.  Look for Sunbrella material used on boats. A local boat upholstery shop can hook you up. I lucked out and got a couple of pieces for free.
