Thanks rand... yes he does, for the moment, i believe that the bulk of his work is custom. not sure if this has or will change as that pacific rim experience really threw a wrench in his program.

gary, like almost everyone i spoke with while i was on the islands ended a long list of accomplishments with an almost apologetic "...and i also do stand up paddle boards." this never really struck me as odd since i was a "purist" and never even entertained the possibility of doing stand up. it also never occurred to me as a prone surfer (a lousy one granted) that this was  something i should loath.

it is interesting that bamboo is only now being tapped into as renewable resource for fiber applications. as the latest bio-based resins are introduced, people will start thinking of new ways to "grow" their production.

I'm going off topic here, but was the second picture taken at Tenaya Lake in Tuolumne Meadows?

...spot on!

Thanks for making my day!  I've spent so many summers up there climbing and I can recognize that granite anywhere.   I've been thinking about taking my board up there and paddle around Tenaya on non-climbing days.

Sorry for hijacking this topic.

interest article in wetsand on Gary
http://www.wetsand.com/category.asp?locationid=5&tabid=850&subtabid=2184&catid=2184&prodid=0&resourceid=

I am assuming that several of this techniques that he pioneered years ago are behind the Surftech etc. wood laminates.

Discussion about them here.

Long and narrow indicates old shape. Get what you pay for in this case.

I just came back from a Baja trip where I hit the South Swell perfect. There was a guy on one of these and he was ripping. He was surfing overhead waves and the board seemed to surf really well.  I also saw him paddle a good distance to the various waves spots, so it must track ok too.
I talked to him and he said he's planning on keeping it for quite some time.

Hi River,

Never have tried one of the Werner standup paddles, but had owned one of their kayak paddles many years back.  Great product.  They were one of the first paddle companies to make our product list.  Thanks for the post!
