I've never paddled a JL, but really like my new RH CC (1 month old).   Not gonna sell my race board(s), but must say, I haven't paddled them much since I got the CC.   For me, the main difference is surfing.  Since I can't resist surfing whatever I'm floating on, even my distance paddles end in a short surf session.  Race boards don't surf well at all, therefore the CC gets the call.
Fog--if you don't surf, then I must say the exceptional glide from a race board is addicting, and hard to replace.

Has anyone tried the 14' version of the Ron House CC? I would use it primarily to catch really small waves but wonder if the additional glide I would get over the 12'6" CC would be worth the loss of maneuverability in the surf?

I would stay shorter if there is the potential for surfing along your cruise. I cruise on both my 9'4 and 11'6 depending on what breaks I might cruise by. My 14' Hobie works for an occasional wave, but it's not what I would want to surf.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

12'6" all the way.  I used to own a Bark Expedition 14', and sold it partly cuz it was a pain to maneuver in the surf zone.  Just too big, bulky.

The CC honestly looks like one of the funnest boards on earth. I see Tom English on his a lot chasing dolphins then turning for a wave and ripping the bag out of it. When my wife started talking about a board that's what first came to my mind so I could play with it!

Thinking about a CC to replace my wifes nalu 10'10", who complains its too slow but thinks my 404 is too "tippy", but we're inlanders, so a touring may be better, but the CC looks more fun.

Does anyone have any suggestions for an inflatable that might be comparable to the Coastal Cruiser?  Would love to get a CC, but at 12'6" storage would be an issue...

VistaSUP there are lots of inflatable options out there.  Don't know of any 12'6 all-around shapes, but plenty of 12'6 touring/racing models - Starboard Astro, Naish One, Red, Hobie, ULI...

If you do go for an all-around shape like the CC, make sure it has a good sized center fin.  A lot of inflatable all-arounds have a fixed, stumpy little center fin & don't track well at all.

This one on the 'Zone looks pretty legit:

Just picked up and paddled my wife's blue 12-6 CC, very surprised by its light weight and speed, especially downwind. Love it, haven't been this excited about a board in awhile. I'll be paddling it a lot on windy days this winter...

Welcome to the CC Club, TN!
Wow, you're a man of action....July 24 "thinking about a CC...."

Agree..it's relatively light for a 12'6".  Will be paddling mine along the coast, and picking off surfable waves along the way, this weekend.

Hi Mike911 .. Ren here !

If you are going out this Sunday ... and are willing to paddle towards around PV, as there are not many waves at all .. maybe we can catch a few "wind waves" by the Cove.  :)

I have done that at least twice during this summer ... towards the end of the day (5+PM) and had the place just to myself pretty much.

It was fun ... and with your Coastal Cruiser, and me on  my Coreban AlphaRace 12'6 .. those wind waves are fun !  ;)

Just let me know...

C'Ya

Our 11'11" x 31" One World Surfari is also another option...phenomenal glide...surfs great...

http://blog.surfingsports.com/2012/12/one-world-series-sups.html

The 11'1" x 30" and/or 11'1" x 32" One Worlds are also great for coastal cruising...and, surfing...

Thanks Mik! My local riveria dealer only had 14 of em and was headed to the outdoor show in Utah, so I had to act fast! Wife paddles it tomorrow, she's going to love it.

How are the rails on the CC?  Soft throughout, hard throughout, soft transitioning to hard, etc.

Just wondering.  Been thinking about rails a lot, lately...

The bottom of the board is much wider than the deck, trapezoid shaped. Very surprised by it's speed - takes more effort but it's faster than I expected, much closer to my displacement boards. Paddled it very choppy water last weekend and noticed the front end vibrating like a tuning fork with each impact, thought it might snap off - not sure if the vibration is good or bad or due to construction. I really love this board even though I'm inland, would buy it again.
