Seattle Downwind Video - SIC Bullet 14'
« on: March 20, 2013, 09:57:09 PM »
We've got a little gem of a downwind spot locally near Seattle - relatively shallow depth (less than 100') and non-banked shoreline produce groomed rollers and the fun begins when the S wind gets to 20+ range...today it was 30 sustained gusting to the mid 40's. The best day I have ever seen this spot.

Did two runs totally around 14 miles - the weather went from sunny, to cloudy, then hail as you'll see.

The Bullet 14 is an absolute rocket when the wind exceeds 20, its like a steam locomotive that you can't slow down once gaining momentum.

Cool video!  The SIC boards are simply amazing in downwind.  I love my 17 but wish I also had a 14 and 12. Thanks for sharing!

Nice video and footwork. So what happen at the end? Feet were numb or just plain exhaustion.  ;D

Nice!  8)

Noticed you didn't have a leash, you forget in the excitement, or you just don't use one?....
Boards can get blown away waaay faster than anyone can swim.

It ain't over until the fat board sinks....

Nice, I'll have to give it a try once I get a decent DW board.  BTW, the large building in the background starting at :08 is the Seahawks training facility.  Go Hawks!

It pretty much WOULD be Round the Rock, if you stopped halfway through and paddled back to where you started.   :(

Rastaman--thanks.  I knew it was Lake Washington, just couldn't tell where.   That's great you get those conditions there, right in town.

rasta, what kind of mount do you have for your camera?  can you take a pic of it?  that Bullet looks fast and furious.

PDX - It's great that it's so convenient, rarely does it blow gusting to the 40's, but 20-30s happen quite often and produce fun conditions with lots of glides.

Kayakdogg - it's the standard GoPro Suction cup mount. It was the first time I've used it, tied a safety leash to it in case it came off but it was rock solid through 2 downwind runs and driving on the freeway, I even fell on it at the end of the video and the suction stayed put, just bent the angle a bit  :)

Great job on the vid Rasta - Several of us frequently do a shorter version of this run with a really easy shuttle from Newcastle Park to Coulon Park and back.  Usually we get 10-20's on the weekends, the really windy days seem reserved for mid week.

With no tidal influence ave speeds for our runs are quite consistent with me running around a 10:35 pace on my 12'6" Bark and a 10:10 on my 14 Coast Runner.   Last Sat was a bit windier more 15-25 than our normal 10-20 and the speed on the Coast Runner dropped to a 9:38 for the 4.5 mile run.

From the looks of the vid, you were really smoking on the Bullet and I imagine your time was quite a bit better than the mid 9's.
