Epic Wipeout at Mavs (and a shot of SUP)
« on: January 28, 2013, 05:00:39 PM »
Scarier than any horror flick is this wipeout.

Little frame of Jeff Clark (I think) sweeping into it as well at the :30 point.

Ouch! No leash either, how in the hell did his board not end up on the rocks or shore?
Semper Fi!

It's simple, either you get the wave or the wave gets you.

"To be able to pop back up is important".
    Quite the understatement.

I'm pretty sure that's waderz from here, not Jeff.

I'll have to hit him up and see.

Yes that's Wade (rz).  You can tell by his patented thigh pads.

More like these, from Sports Chalet (below).  How can you argue with GMac at a time like this?:

Man! Whatever works.

Looks heavy!

How does wearing all the flotation effect someone when trying to get under a wave when you're in the impact zone?

I want to be very unambiguous about this:

The flotation will save your life.   AND it doesn't affect your ability to dive at all.

If you don't believe me watch a loon or a cormorant swim under water.  They float better than a bobber and have two little pathetic feet but can still catch fish.

Or take it from Mike Parsons last week:

"I don't know if I would've surfaced without the floatation, 'cause I couldn't move," he said. "I learned for sure -- the waves were solid 10 to 12 feet, and when you're in beachbreak that big and go unconscious, nothing can really help you. It's almost funny wearing flotation at a beachbreak, but it's a no-brainer for me. I could paddle and duckdive fine."  - Mike Parsons on surviving death.

It's was in fact Wade Lawson. Him and I were both out that day along with fellow SUP surfer Pete Calori. Wade ended up catching a few bombs.  All of us wear floatations at Mavs. Doing otherwise is not even an option.
