X-trak no longer making pads for SUP's?
« on: November 20, 2012, 10:31:51 AM »
After my post regarding what fellow zoners thought was the best traction pad, I started calling shops around me. One shop told me that X-trak is no longer making SUP specific pads, which is a shame because they said they were a shop favorite because they were closed-cell foam and didn't soak up water and were very grippy.

My new Kalama board has an xtrac pad that I got through Bill Foote.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

According to their web page, they're still in the biz.

X-Trac has stopped making pads according to them.  They are focusing on the boat industry according to them, SEADECK.

I guess the store is still open until they sell out of pads.

It doesn't make sense to make lightweight carbon boards like we do, and load them up with heavy H20 absorbing pads...especially when we are shaving grams and ounces...;-)

We just had a production run of the black and dark gray X-Traks done a couple of weeks ago while we were waiting for our branded pads to be finished...still have several dozen of the X-Traks in stock for sale...and, we have several pallets of ours just in...also, lightweight closed cell foam...integrated tail ramp...closest to X-Trak pads we've ridden...but, a little more comfortable...and, $59 less...

I suppose it's not surprising...the X-Trak board pads were very labor intensive for US production...one pass for the grooves and another pass for the microdots...when we first started selling them, they only had one machine...as standup took off, they added another...we tried to get them to add a center section...apparently, won't happen now...good product...was worth the price...

X-Trak Surf Traction Pads are no longer manufacturing pads.  You can still get a few of the SUP deck pads that they have left in stock from your local store or their website store.  They are out of the kick pads altogether and if you click on the kick pads it takes you to the sup deck pads.

So you need a kick pad ?  check your local surf stores that may still have them in stock.  Short term solution, but if you like this pad buy it now for your next board or switch pads to something else, I will, I prefer the mosaic cut up Hydroturf it is cushy and grippy.

I guess Seadeck is selling alot more and has them in the money ROI and they don't need to carry the surf traction pads anymore.

Here, go to Seadeck.  They sell the stuff in sheets:

http://www.seadek.com/p-11-long-sheet-18-x-74.aspx  $75 for an 18x74 sheet.

This whole business about a sup specific pad is kind of silly in my opinion.  Just get a sheet and cut it up yourself.  Works better than having one huge sheet on your board in my experience.  I did the same thing when Hydroturf was first starting to be used as a pad.  Hydroturf had sheets of seconds for like $25.

The idea that these things should be $150 or more is a little expensive in my opinion.  But some people don't like to do things themselves.

It's not the same. They take that sheet material and form deep ridges into it for SUP.
Sure you could use it, but it would not have the same level of grip. Although it's probably as grippy as some of the production pads without much in the way of ridges or diamonds. I'm taking about you Starboard.

Cut the sheet into pieces, space it out and you have your ridges.  I have the pad with the ridges and I don't think they are better than the cut up mosaic type pads as far as traction goes.
