Fins recommended for an 8'10...
« on: November 18, 2012, 03:58:04 PM »
I am hoping to pick up my 8'10x29x4.25 121 liters very soon from King's. Having it made with a 5 fin box set up, Futures. Have really every only ridden the original Gerry Lopez GL-1's in both quad and thruster sets. I noticed that the GL-2's are a little smaller, which is great because unless it was big out, I thought the GL-1's were a bit too stiff.

Was wondering what most people are running on their performance SUP's these days for quad and thruster set ups? I've attached a pic of the board below (waiting for it to be glassed) so you can see the basic shape.

Nectar quad is a good choice.

There is a new Futures SUP specific set coming soon designed by Infinity.

I recommend two kind of fins for quad / thruster setups:
- C-Drives (see http://www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php?topic=15007.0 ). These fins are killer for boards and conditions where you push hard on your legs. They offer an insane drive (you exit your turns with more speed and cover more ground), while staying playful at high speed (the small tip doesn't "foil" and develop excess push). But some people do not like the extra grip they provide.
- Scarfini fins ( http://www.scarfini.com/products.html ) if you prefer the "conventional" fins (for instance for longer boards with thin rails). We are a lot to find them the fastest ones we tried, with great acceleration (GL fins feel like boat anchors in comparison), so much that French SUPers made the French Scarfini distributor be out of stock for the year this summer...
