Any thought to creating regional sub forums?
« on: September 27, 2012, 09:57:24 AM »
Just seeing what other people in here think.

I'm on a few other forums and in the meet up areas the have it split into regions. It makes it a whole lot easier to find topics close to you. Less likely to miss one.

Not sure if this has been brought up before or not.

That's a great idea. I'd love to do a down-winder on Lake Michigan, but that requires two cars with ability to haul boards.

A Chicagoland "chapter" would be awesome.

It's simple, either you get the wave or the wave gets you.

great idea....I vote for a New England Chapter, I think this would help with the Classified Section (making it easier to buy and sell Boards, Paddles, etc... I get stoked reading about a board for sale just to get dissapointed when I find out it's in Cali and shipping would be to much $$) and even better with a meet up section.

NoSalt, look up Windy City Waterman, my friend Matt Lennert's blog in Chicago.  He enjoy's downwinders and pursues them seriously.  If you are ever in the west MI area I'm up for it all the time.

like that idea, couple sub region for the states, then canada and out of state section.

"Canada" as a region doesn't work for meetups.  Vancouver to Seattle or Portland works - Van could care less what Toronto is doing (and I suppose vice versa).

Yeah, but you really care what the Newfie's are up to.... Haha

I think a PNW region for that area woul work best for our area.

They have those on iWindsurf. They're a pretty good idea. The only problem there is that the entire east coast is lumped into one category. We'd need to be smart and figure out regions that work. For the East Coast I suggest New England, Atlantic region (NYS south to Maryland), South (Virginia to Florida), Gulf Coast.

I agree, it would be nice to have local forums. I'd like to get more people into downwinders in Toronto but it's not easy. One problem with using a local forum for something like organizing downwinders is that you have get get micro-local to be effective. In the Toronto area, different groups of paddlers do downwinders together depending on if they're in the east part of the city or west of it.

Just a few days ago, I set up a blog focusing on downwind SUP in Toronto. I've allocated a page of the blog to anyone that wants to post on organizing a downwind session. Here's a link:

I am happy to do that.  Please add your suggested regions and I will do this next week.
