Air Attack - the first 720 on a surfboard
« on: December 20, 2012, 06:34:19 AM »
saw this on surfline this morning and it blew my mind. i had heard about albee layer landing this and couldnt wait to see the footage.

if it were snowboarding, and that wave was a halfpipe, it would be a backside 720, as he lands fakie. ive watched this clip about 30 times on repeat today and its unreal the way the board sticks to his feet with how fast he's spinning; he almost looked strapped in.

the double spin is about 8 mins in the video, but the whole video is insane.

Nice link. The hardest thing about the winter is dry time. But we always have the snow.

Wow, that's truly amazing.

As someone that can just barely, occasionally pull off a 540 in a halfpipe snowboarding, strapped in, that is frigging incredible.

Plus, the speed they have to rotate, pretty impressive.
Semper Fi!

It's simple, either you get the wave or the wave gets you.

Triples are being pushed in windsurfing now, nobody has landed one in comp yet, but it's just a matter of time.

It takes a quiver to do that.

Granted these are all world class athletes but the windsurfers make the surfers look like kindergartners.

The speed, the altitude, the rotational velocity, the weight and amount of equipment.  Not to mention that the windsurfers have been doing these types of extreme aerials for 25+ years.

Exactly what Albee says in the video, is what I'm fearful of in attempting to land aerial maneuvers.

Broken boards, joints, etc.  They never show what happens to you or the equipment if you fail. Ughhh!

Like, that was so like rad, like I bet, like he was, like stoked.  When it was like, all done like, he was probably like yeah.  Probably like when he like gets his report card, like and it's like all A's, like that kind of stoked.

Damned kids!  What is wild about this thing is that it reads like a 360 but it is actually and upwind 180 followed by a downwind 180 (all in a single aerial).  I am calling it a zero.

And here's a vid of Boujmaa's triple aftermath, he didn't break any equipment, but he did break his head and needed to be rescued.

It takes a quiver to do that.
