Roll call to all Texas SUP AND SUSers
« on: May 25, 2012, 08:44:31 AM »
There are four of us in New Braunfels, that I know of.
How many SUP or SUS in the San Antonio or Austin area? We mainly go to Canyon Lake, Lady Bird Lake (Town Lake) and Bird Island.
IF you're retired and active " Let's hit it week days".
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body,
but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming:
"WOW, what a ride!!!

Surfer,

I live  in Austin, but I rarely SUP here..... I pretty much just SUP in Austin when I go watch the bats under Congress Ave bridge, or  if I'm exposing newbies and kids to the sport.

99 percent of my SUP'ing is in the surf at Port "A"...

We met  back in 2006 at Canyon Lake when I used to KiteSurf on the point. i have always enjoyed your posts on Central Texas Kiteboarding  forum.  A few years ago I moved my Kiting to the coast also...

Here's a cool meetup group in Austin/Central Tx :

Cheers!
David

I'm south of Houston in clear lake. Haven't had my raven for very long but I've been paddling around clear lake some. I come to lake canyon, lake Travis, corpus, palacios, port Arthur, grapevine, white rock, rush creek, fort worth, all over the state for work. I will be bringing my board as much as possible.

Live in Austin.  Out on Lady Bird lake 1-3x /wk as work permits.  Frequent Canyon Lake windsurf or SUP.  Occasional trip to coast.

David, When Richard left the area, I didn't have anyone to teach me the finer points of the Flysurfers. That and a friend getting killed at Lake Mohave,NV. got me out of kiteboarding. I go windsurfing at B.I. a lot in early spring and late fall. I want to get into racing and surfing the SIPs. I'm looking for a good raceboard now. I would prefer a Bark, but don't know a lot about them yet.

Anyone in the Houston area ever done DW runs down the bay? I know we've done it in lasers(sailboats) but it probably wouldn't be a bad ride from the Texas city dyke to the seabrook area(on a windy day)

Anyone being hassled by TP&W over PFD's?  The game wardens here in SPI and starting to enforce in the Laguna Madre.  I read the law and it is ambiguous, stating 'other paddle craft', but no specific mention of SUP's.
Lots of foil boards 6’7”-7’4”, L41 TVD’s and Jimmy Lewis Strikers..

We just paddled there yesterday with no problem. I knew the rentals carried the PFDs but I didn't know we were required to carry them.

It's hit or miss.  If they are out, they will give you a ticket.

These are EU approved BUT NOT US Coast Guard. They are the most comfortable vest I've tried (very light, double entry).
After a near drowning windsurfing I decided at 67, I'm not as invincible as I thought.
I got one of these, then my wife  and son got them also. A bit pricey but then I don't mind wearing it and it works great for "hooking in" windsurfing.

Yeah I use a Zhik EU/CE approved jacket when I have to. You haven't had any trouble with them checking for USCG approval?

No. I guess when they see the jacket, they figure it's legal. They probably go to someone that ISN'T wearing one.

It kind of sucks to be paddling for six years and then have some nitwit in an office in Austin come up with a rule that I now have to live by.  I now have to figure out how to attach a PFD to an 8'11" wave board when I want to get a little exercise.
