creek, have you ever paddled out around monomoy or is that just tempting fate too much?  i keep thinking how beautiful (and isolated) it would be out there.  I think on a big enough board, with a small group, it would be ok.. or at least that's what i keep telling myself

I think all of you that have been on this forum know where I go and the thread that belongs to it.  Check my recent post at Maliko thread.  After taking many pics of others, someone got one of me.  Felt like snowboarding in powder, only with 17 feet of tip to keep from burying.

A BIG group....stay in the middle  ;D

Actually, I was thinking the same thing the other day... If you look closely at a goggle map, it looks like there might be a way, but I would have to check it out pretty well ahead of time.

If you started on the INSIDE, near Morris Island during a mid and falling tide, then hugged the shore, you could probably have good control over the situation. I would also check the Chatham "Great White Sightings" website to see if they frequent the inside channels. I know they have been sighted in Pleasant Bay before and I paddle there alone a LOT. It's slightly creepy when I get close to the new Inlet. I stay in clear shallow water when I get close to Strong Island area.

By the way... Pleasant Bay on the Outer Beach side of the bay is an unbelievable paddle spot... and VERY remote, I have been miles from the nearest living person on those trips.

PM me... I'll go anytime there is no surf

A boat escort would be ideal in case it got weird out there.  I honestly don't think white sharks would bother paddle boards, especially if they were 12' + boards but then again, these whites around Chatham have been in the 16-18 ft range so who knows.

I'm in Brewster every Tuesday & Wednesday and some weekends so I'll get in touch next time I'm heading out for a paddle.

Rick there is a way by Morris Island we use to do it in a kayak years back where you can even park a vehicle. On the way to Morris Island there is a causeway. You can park there and carry your board but you will need booties. Just up a ways there is a sanctuary I guess run by the state (forget the name) with ample parking. They have a walking trail to a stairway where you would have to carry your board down but the view is killer and Monomoy is in the distance. I was there in Feburary taking pictures I'll see if I can dig one up.

You could go from the Chatham Lighthouse and give the tourist a thrill watching you dodge great whites. LOL.... you know they will be watching you. Actually, I know people who windsurf and kite surf there so it can't be that bad. But, then again, when they paddleboard they paddle up your way.

Fins to the left, Fins to the right, look out Rick it's going to bite.

I'll call ya when I'm ready for The Monomoy Last Paddle.

Puerto Rico ! Mostly flatwater mangrove laden bays, cays and channels.

The first picture shows the mangrove reserve steps behind my house (houses below the "Laguna La Torrecilla" name). Beautiful flatwater, mangrove everywhere. Not seen in the picture, but at the North, 3 km from my house, i can head out to the open ocean. Tarpon, stingray, iguana and the occasional cayman are my paddling buddies here.

Second picture shows the San Juan bay area, where i show the gps track of one of my favorite runs, 12 kms, from the Laguna del Condado to the last navigation buoy just out of the mouth of the bay and back. Check the Morro fortress, over 500 yr old, at the East of the turnaround.

Third picture shows the area by El Boqueron, with a small fortress to the West of my favorite playground when wind and waves are up. A tiny inlet where the open ocean wave tapers down to a clean swell with wind to help! Perfect to paddle circuits, upwind, side to the swell, downwind, repeat.

Fourth picture shows an aerial view of the El Boqueron, from a hotel East of it.

Fifth and sixth pictures show my two favorite flatwater and downwind areas to the south of the island, by Salinas, 1 hr drive from my home, and Parguera, 2 hr drive away. Both have excellent mangrove channel paddling areas, protected flatwater with excellent small downwind conditions for many kms. Many small mangrove cays to explore.

Enjoy, you're all invited !

I'd love to go out to Monomoy some day. I wanted to do an expedition from Nantucket up to Truro but all the fishies made me rethink that. A near (very near) shore trip would be great to do.

Balance....I stayed at the Caribe Hilton last year for a couple days before a cruise. Was trying to rent a board to ride the bumpy waves out in front but only place I found was closed. What a beautiful area to paddle in. In your 3rd from last picture at the far right...I saw some waves that would get through the opening and cross that little lagoon all the way to the bridge. Would have been fun if I could've found a board.

I saw a couple of local guys paddling the route you have shown...in Laguna del Condado. They pointed me to the rental place.

Stoneaxe...bad luck the rental place was closed...the opening and small lagoon outside of the bridges is where i usually paddle when it's windy and wavy. One can catch a runner and surf it all the way under the bridge, then come back for more. These are runners, not breakers, one needs a race, down wind or 12' plus cruiser to catch them.
The reefs outside of the Hilton are great for surfing, proners crowd the best break just west of the Hilton. On sup, on windless days, you can explore all breaks eastward, several kms of great, unspoiled, proner-less spots.
If you're headed this way on another time, mssg me, I'll be sure you're set up to go.

We all have our Paradise this is my Pandora looking North West.

Small swell is shoulder high and it goes to infinity from there.  SUP'able nearly every day of the year, barring a really hard blow from the South, if you kite or windsurf you can just retreat to the harbor.

This place is complete with waves, fish, crab, pelican, sea lions, elephant seals, whitey's and I even had a mother whale and calf circle me this morning at the Cove, all just a bike ride from home.

PS: The water is cold however.

SanO and the river at Seal beach when in Calfornia and Horsetooth resevoir when in Colorado.

+1 for the Seal Beach river but not as of late. The north side of the pier is not too bad for knee to waist high lefts but gets very crowded with grumpy old long boarders and hyperactive grommets. BTW, the same grumpy long boarders are the first to complain not directly but very loudly to their buddies about anything other than another long board on *their* waves and they are also first ones to take off on or shoulder hop any and every wave that comes anywhere near them.

As of late I've moved south, down to Bolsa Chica. Still hanging out on the fringes just north of the entrance to the wetlands getting to know the place and get comfortable on faster and larger waves. Every day I go there it seems the surf report says it's 1-3 it's been near head high. Seems to be a mushy wave that never really gets too critical.

One of these days I'll make it to Dog Patch. Hopefully before the summer crowds kick in.

I know what you mean about the surf report.  I sometimes launch from Newport Pier to SUP, not SUS.  I go when the report says 1-2, 1-3.  Sometime, when I get there it is more like 2-4.  That's not big.  But, I'm only paddling, not surfing.  Did it change that much in one hour?  I don't think so.

The patch is my usual to hang out, chit chat, and catch a few. The secret spot is faster and steeper. When I'm there, I don't talk. I become 'wave hog' (usually no one there but fluffy's friends). Hater's beware! Had some of my best sessions there.
It's not overhead to me!
