1080 off the big boy ramp...at 12 Years Old.  At 12 we were stoked to land a hippy jump.

Tail slides with speed.  Awesome.  Some pretty great roads and walkways.

Years ago, after they had paved it but before they opened up the other side of Haleakala Hwy, I saw these guys blazing the new blacktop at speed, full lizard.  They were wearing masks like bank robbers and must have had a rolling pick up since I didn't see any cars parked along the side of the road.  Fresh unadulterated virgin blacktop.

And then there's the crater road on full moon.  Only the guys I knew used those sissy disc brakes and didn't slide to check speed like the kid in that video did.

Those tail slides were unbelievable... the tail slide to swith stance was ridiculous.  I am inspired and see broken bones in my future... :)

Oh wait.  Never mind.  I am 47.

Does it cross any one else's mind that there might be a car whipping around the next turn?  Or are they somewhere where people don't drive or maybe everyone is in church on sunday morning?  Talk about a leap of faith.

That being said, the nose ride wiggle with speed  was very cool..

Then get a longboard.  At 47, the osteoporosis and broken hips are going to start kicking in anyway.  Longboarding will be no more dangerous for you than walking down the hall.

It's become a big issue in Portland, esp. in one neighborhood popular with longboarders and "Zoobombers"--riders on kids' bikes.  They take light rail up to the zoo station, then ride bikes or longboards downhill for miles to downtown.  They used to (maybe still do?) have weekly rides that would attract dozens or maybe even hundreds of riders.  There've been some bad accidents but no deaths, although a longboarder died after colliding with a truck in Hood River.  In Portland, one of the neighbors took a youtube video posted by a skater and added captions listing all the traffic violations as they occurred--got quite a bit of press here.

I don't think there will ever be a solution that makes everyone happy.  In Portland, all the stereotypes get played up--"rich neighbors wanting to close off the neighborhood streets to outsiders" on the one hand, versus "unsafe juvenile delinquent skateboarders" on the other.  The press tends to fan the flames, and the hate ramps up.

Apparently so is Santa Claus, according to the video.
