Minnesota Lakes - Confused on PFD Laws

hello,

I am confused on the PFD law for Minnesota lakes... The part that confuses me is "operated beyond the limits of a swimming, surfing or bathing area." Isn't a lake a swimming area?

I understand my kids need their life jackets but am I supposed to wear one too? Seems a little ridiculous on the flat water when I have a leash.

Someone, fill me in!

In our area, I found a map showing the swim areas.  Form the beach to outside of swim area was about 25 yards.  Did I swim all the way across the bay in my youth?  Yes.  Avoid the ticket.

It is a coast guard rule that most inland waterways adopted (defer to) You as an adult can use an inflatable Children 16 and under must wear a lifejacket

everyone must have a whistle too.

I don't know the enforcement procedures in Minn. but better safe than sorry
