« on: March 04, 2012, 07:05:18 PM »
I have seen some beveled rails lately  on the hull paddler and I think the  hull rippers?  what do you think of them what are the advantages and disadvantages?

The bevel on the bottom of the boards like the hull rippers lets the board get on it's rail a lot easier , on the deck the rail also sweeps down making a very low profile rail (like a short board) so these boards really get over onto their rail and carve a turn. Others Sups with box type rails turn flat . That's the main advantage of the bevelled rails plus it also increases paddling speed because of the hull shape. You will see other sups with low profile rails but there are either thin boards or have a rolled deck. On customs you will see stepped decks or rails this is also gives a low profile rail and it keeps the deck flatter and still keeps the volume in the board.

There are pros' and cons with the bottom bevel with stability being the main one as boards feel strange when you first stand on as the rock on and off the bevel. This is something you just need to get used too plus they behave differently in foamy sections and move around completely different to a flat bottom board.
