You need to be careful with knee cuffs and have them nice and snug because those with fat'ish legs that taper down to skinny ankles can have the cuff pulled off the point below the knee and slide right down their leg and off their foot.. I've seen that happen a few times to my fat knee and skinny ankled friends..  :)

Yikes. That could definitely be an issue for me. Looking at my upper calf I think I would have to have a pretty narrow cuff or have it tighter than I would find comfortable to keep it up for long periods. My feet might be wide but no where as wide as my calf.

that is exactly why i dont use the knee leash! Coiled ankle works fine, coil keeps the leash out of the way when moving back.

I have used a calf leash on my longboards for years.  Easier to walk the board without tripping over the leash.  Naturally, when I started paddling, I continued to use the same leashes.  I have found that paddle becomes entangled in the leash when wave riding.  I switched to an ankle leash and the problem disappeared.  I found the coil leash to be utterly useless when wave riding as it loops around itself and becomes about 3 feet long.
Lots of foil boards 6’7”-7’4”, L41 TVD’s and Jimmy Lewis Strikers..

Just bought a calf leash, and have used it for a couple of smallish sessions.

I like that I step on the leash or get the leash twisted around my foot less with the calf leash when standing up.

I dislike that I am more aware of wearing the leash around my calf,  it seems to chafe a bit more, and it pinches a bit if I knee paddle. All these are markedly improved by sliding the cuff a few inches lower.

Six to one, half dozen to the other.
