Nice DJ,

What is the length of that fin?

It says 23"...  ;D ... but it's more like 9 1/2".. maybe 10".

I'll measure it next time I see it.. It's a nice shape and works well.

It's much better than there bamboo race fin that came on their last years boards.

Yeah I saw the 23 when I zoomed in on the pic.  That's why I asked; thinking that wouldn't let you draught to shalllow though.
If you are not living on the edge; you are taking up too much room!

Nice DJ,

What is the length of that fin?

The pic of that board is a 12'6", not a 14' free race. If you scroll down on the pics it says 12'6" on the board on wardogs website. I have been perusing the web finding out everything I can about the 2010 Free Race and haven't seen a 14' model yet.

That is definitely the 12'6 Free Race. It is the wider version at 31". I have one and love it. I am wanting a 14 foot board and my local dealer called the Starboard rep to see what he could get his hands on. Supposedly he has shipped a 2010 14' "Freerace" which should be here by next week. I can't find any info on that board. I see the new Coast Runner and Open Ocean ( thanks DJ), but nothing about the 2010 boards. We will see what shows up. I will post pics.

The board is here!  Turns out to be a 2010 14 foot Elite Race. Starboard says it is 28" wide, but only just. Really skinny looking and by my measurements more like 26". I am in love!  So fast. Cannot believe how much faster the 14 foot board feels. Just goes and goes. Very stable as well. Surprising because it looks so narrow. Nice amount of rocker up front,  it just eats up the swell here in the Gulf of Mexico. I could not be more happy. I have a request DJ. No more pics or reviews of the new Open Ocean. If Starboard has improved on my board and made it that much better, I am going to go broke!  Seriously though, thanks to you guys on this forum. Pointed me in the right direction.

Totally stoked in Sarasota

Hal

It is funny, the fin is stamped 23" as well as the specs in the new catalog.  It should probably be 23 cm or (23/2.54) 9" or so.

Looks good. I have a 12'6" 31.5" Race coming my way. I went wide for throwing gear on for stability. We will see how it works out.

Have fun.

I just sold a 2010 Free Race 12'6 x 31. Loved it  but wanted to move up to a 14 foot board. The 12'6 is super stable!  Plenty of space for whatever you want to bring along. great for doing Yoga on as well. The pad is about the same size as a typical Yoga mat. Surprisingly fast in flat water too. Enjoy the new board!

The deck configuration of the 2011 Race is different from the 2010 Free Race, but there is still some space for gear on it. Different nose design too. Not as canoe like, but still a displacement hull/nose. Looks good for all conditions. I thought I was going to be on a 14 foot board this summer (still might lol) but a deal fell through, so I just wanted to get going with something that was in stock and ready to be shipped.

We're thinking it's 23 sq inches (in area).

Any specific recommendations for a replacement for the stock bamboo Starboard 2010 race board fins.  I feel like this fin is a tad bit large causing some issues in side chop. Looking for something a little "looser"?  I seem to remember Wardog posting a recommendation on his blog, but can't find it. Most of my paddling is done just offshore in the Gulf of Mexico in relatively flat water. Thanks for any input.

Here is a good comparison between the 2010 Surf Race and the 2011 Race with some good pics.

That is a very interesting comparison. I was really interested in this board but for someone of my weight, skill level, purpose and taking account of my existing quiver, it looks like the 2010 model suits me better.
