There's this Danny guy who rides one.  He does pretty well on it.  http://www.facebook.com/people/Danny-Ching/139700249  Ask him!  I bet you will get a reply.

I don't know about that.  Dave Kalama and Laird Hamilton were at a REI SUP demo day in Seattle last summer, and Dave spent several minutes with me showing me paddling technique.  Those two guys were helping everyone--way out of proportion to whatever I imagine they might have been paid to spend their Saturday in Seattle.

Same thing with my other sport--swimming.  The great swimmers are generally very humble and just want to help people enjoy their sport.   Some of the best advice I ever got came from a guy in a pool who saw me doing a breaststroke turn, and said, "Hey, I don't mean to butt into your workout, but there's a couple things I've learned that work for me, and I could show them to you if you'd like".  He turned out to be Roque Santos, winner of the 1992 Olympic Trials 200m breaststroke.  But in the pool, just another guy who loved to swim.

I read it was the new,  "hollow" carbon model.  Here's a blog and video on the board, looks crazy light http://www.waterhound.com/hollow-carbon-raceboards-the-404-monster.html  I dunno though, I think that "Danny" guy could win on a 2x4.

I met Danny at the Surf Expo last month.  He was super nice and approachable.  In fact, he walked me through the entire Riviera line-up.  Talked with him about 10 minutes.  I'm pretty sure if you send him a question about his board, he would be more than happy to make it worth your time.

Danny was very laid back and approachable at the Orange Bowl Paddle Championship and several friends enjoyed the paddle clinic he put on later that week before heading up to the Expo.
My bright green Monster 12'6" should be arriving relatively soon. I'll try and provide some feedback for you after I get it wet.

Mr Ching has stated on several occasions that he is only going to race on his hollow 12'6" this year.  Nothing else.  It's going to be down-right humorous to watch him beat guys on their unlimited's (although he does that now I guess).

Yes, I witnessed first hand  Danny not only win ,but kick 52 14' and unlimited sups  asses .

MANY have abandoned the LONG for the ShORTer.........................

The 15th annual HanoHano Ocean Challenge 1/29/10 on San Diego's Mission Bay attracted a record 165 SUP entries ( 5 mile bay course ).

It IS the big attraction of the So.Cal.winter ocean racing series, due to easy course, swag, incredible food, fun for all, killer raffle( grand prize OC1,surfski or SUP,vendor displays and demos. Great job HHOCC !

I write this thread for the numbers....165 total Sups, 113 in 12'6"division (nearly 70% of Sup entries), 32 in 14' division, and 20 in unlimited.

This is ,IMHO, full circle of  5years ago. Well, in the same 2005 race there were only 16 of us Sups total , and no divisions. LOL !

EVERYONE is making 12'6' race boards ,and they seem to have become the ticket for flat or mellow ocean SoCal.race formats.

Why not, the 12'6" boards are down to 12 pounds !!!

I feel sorry for you Skyfish. All you were trying to do was get a good and honest evaluation of peoples opinion and you have to get replies like this idiot.  This is what makes the SUP community look bad. Just go to shops and demo boards and find the right one for your style. "This guy who rides one" could get on any good race board and win because of his skill. It could be totally wrong for you. Hey Raf can you send me a photo of your shrine to Danny, I bet it's nice.

socalracing--I think you misinterpreted raf's post.  He wasn't trying to mess with Skyfish.  He was seriously recommending that Skyfish contact Danny Ching.  He was doing that because he said himself in his next post how he had met Danny Ching at a surf expo and had got 10 minutes of good advice from him.  He was making a joke by calling him "this Danny guy" because he assumed everyone would know who he is.

That's the amazing thing about SUP.  Nobody seems to get a big head no matter how much success they've had.
