Events / Naish Demo Day in Jacksonville, FL
« on: May 03, 2011, 06:54:09 PM »
I talked with Sunrise Surf Shop in Jacksonville today (they're a dealer for Naish).  They said there was going to be a Naish Demo from 4-7pm on Friday, May 13th at Huguenot Park.

I'm interested an a Mana 10' and the 11'6" Nalu (I'm 6'2", 250lbs).  Both should be there.

There are 2 Huguenot Parks in Jax.  I think it's this one (closest to the shop).

Great video... Hope that guy moves out when he gets older.

I liked that song on the video, anyone know who sang it?

I like this one:

"Extreme Paddleboard Trip
This trip is not for beginners or novice paddleboarders.  It is an overnight paddle through the most densely  invested alligator waters in the South.  But if its an extreme rush and a lot of danger you seek, this trip is for you.  For this trip I must interview you to make sure you are up for the trip and we must have liability wavier's signed.  Call for price."

Somehow I feel a little more protected in a kayak or canoe.  I've stumbled on some big gators when out fishing.  I've had a 10 footer follow my canoe a few hundred yards.  I wouldn't want to be near even an 8-10 footer during mating season on a SUP.  Outside of mating season not as bad.

I've seen some big gators in that river. So much that I don't want to do it in a sit-in-top.  Props to you for taking it on.

ericspin and paddledaddy, thanks for the info.  I will have to get down to Tampa sometime.  I'm in Gainesville so it should be an easy trip.

I do something like the Garb Tie Down with 3/8" braided nylon.  A loop on the end (like the Garb attaches), then I have a loop about the middle of the board, then I take the loose end around the rack, back thru the middle loop, back to the rack and put 3-4 half hitches in it.  I've marked my ropes for front and back.

It works great and is just as fast as the Garb's go on in the video.  The other benefit is the rope doesn't vibrate in the wind like the flat nylon on tie downs, etc.

I've taken it up to 70 mph back and forth to the beach about 90 minutes from my house.

I attached some pictures.  The second one shows how I connect it to the racks.

Ended up paddling inshore down at St. Augustine today.  It was windy and choppy.

First time paddling on my own board.  Can't wait to go again next Saturday.

I'll be in JAX Sunday. Where's a good place to go?  The kids will be surfing too. Hopefully not too crowded.

Do you think Coreban might come out with a Carbon Fiber Pair?

Downwind and Racing / Any Downwinding in Florida?
« on: March 31, 2011, 10:22:03 AM »
I spend a lot of time in St. Augustine.  I'm getting a board for surfing (about 10'6" x 30") and will probably paddle it along the beach for a workout when the surf is below knee high.  I'm 6'2" and 240lbs.  I know there are better boards for cruising but I'm just working out.  4-6 miles up and back (upwind first).

Are there any downwind opportunities in NE FL?  How about the Gulf Coast?  It looks like a blast.
