Gear Talk / Re: Longboard SUP ?« on: April 19, 2016, 06:37:50 PM »
I'm going to check out the 404 Floater. I have to agree w/ SlatchJim on the Laird. I had a SurfTech model and it was my favorite longboard. I currently have a 10'6" Dewey Weber Performer SUP. The Dewey is a better noserider and the Laird more performance oriented. I'd pick the Laird if all things were equal.

Sunova SUP / Re: Spring Sunova Demo Tour - supthecreek & Tino - Miami to Maine in late March« on: April 01, 2016, 12:20:05 PM »
I want to thank Creek and Tino. It was great seeing them in Jax. I love getting to try the different boards out. I was glad to see the Sunova's are lightening proof. That was pretty comforting.
I hope I get a chance to head up north this summer to try some waves on the Cape. 19
SoCal / Re: Going to be in SoCal in a week« on: March 26, 2016, 06:19:02 PM »
I rented from OEX Point Loma last year. Great experience.
Make sure you have roof racks (I bought some soft racks that I flew with). http://www.oexpointloma.com/ 20

Anything less than 10' probably wouldn't be a problem but I wouldn't trust a big bull gator in mating season.
I've had a big one follow me pretty close for 100 yds or so. I was in a tandem kayak at the time. Pretty intimidating. One of the local guides told me a story when he went over a big gator canoeing up a side creek. He must have hit it with his paddle. It popped up and clamped down on his canoe. It gave him a few shakes and let him go. Back in the 80's I remember someone going in off a Hobie Cat and a big one ended up taking his arm off. There about as trustworthy as a bull shark. I stay away but know people who've gotten away with it. 21
SUP General / Re: Where to look in Florida for a second home« on: February 26, 2016, 07:41:59 PM »Live in Florida all my life, 66 years, and if I was in your position, good surf on your wish list.. I'll second Cocoa to Jupiter. I head down to that stretch from St. Augustine a lot in the winter. I can skin it all year in Jupiter. Cocoa is pretty close if you're in Orlando too. 22
Gear Talk / Re: What board is closest to Starboard 8'10 wide point« on: February 11, 2016, 06:48:25 PM »
I rented an 8'10" Widepoint for a week in Mexico. I liked it but didn't feel it had as much glide as it should.
I demoed the 9'2" Sunova Flo when Creek was down in FL. I really liked it. It was super stable, great glide, speed, adn loose on the wave. I want to get on the 8'10" and see how that floats me. Take a look at the Flo, I want one as my "stable" go out in anything. I'm 6'2", 208 lbs. for reference. 23
Sunova SUP / Re: Flow vs Soul - How do they compare?« on: December 21, 2015, 08:15:35 PM »
I liked the 9'2" Flow. I'm about 208 lbs. It was super stable for me. I really want to get on the 8'11 to see how it stable it is.
I felt I could take the 9'2" out in anything. It surfed really well and I really liked the glide. 24
Sunova SUP / Re: creek and Sunova covering the East Coast this week- join us!« on: December 11, 2015, 12:03:24 PM »
I say we all road trip to Cali and do it again. They'll have waves for us (more than we want). I need to retire.

Sunova SUP / Re: West Coast ----- Tino is bringing Sunova's to YOU.....now!« on: December 11, 2015, 11:57:21 AM »
You guys are talking some size that would make me a spectator. If I went out though, I'd want that 9'2" Flow. That was stable for me and I think it likes it big.

You guys will have a blast. I'd love to go but it's a little far from Florida.

What a blast. We didn't leave the beach until about 2:00. Put me in the Flow camp! That board made me look almost as good as JD
BTW - that TV Dinner you rode was 7'6", not 7'8" (you probably had information overload yesterday). You rode that board better than I do. I have to come up your way (only when it's warmer). Great meeting you and Tino. Thanks for making the trip. 28

NorthEast / Re: Any Zoners around Cape Cod available to surf the second week of July?« on: April 16, 2015, 06:21:52 AM »
Looks like it will be September. Any recommendations on board rentals? I'll explore that along with shipping mine. Let me know if anyone is interested in trying an 8'10" X 31.5 Stu Sharpe Honey Badger

Not too bad. I live an hour and forty-five minutes from surf. Some spots are up 3.5 hours. I might try to score a place closer to the surf for a night or 2.
I just have to decide July vs September then flesh out the plan. |
