Hmm, this thing seems to be flying under the radar, but... Over on windsurf forum, there has long been notice of a windsurf race and beach party event at Old Silver Beach (Falmouth, MA). It seems to be coming together and date is May 25-26. Location is beachfront over at SeaCrest Hotel. The event has now been listed on boardliving.com... I contacted the organizer to ask if SUP racing will be included in some way, and his response was a definite yes. In fact, the plan is to grow the event into a WPA-sanctioned event for 2014. Details still shaping up, but wanted to get the word out to folks in the area. The SeaCrest/Old Silver if you've never been is a nice place and oh yeah, has a full outdoor bar. So get the honey-do list done now!

Anybody know ANYTHING about when the *%$*#*! the parking lot is going to reopen up there? Sheesh, it's only been over a year now. Pretty discouraging to go up there and find that none of the TEN non-affected parking spaces are available.
From the looks of things, no way in he-double hockey sticks is that project going to be completed by Memorial Day. It's sad.. I think I'm going to stay away until I hear that construction is done and you can actually park. Sick of wasting my time and the Middle East's gas. ;(

Curious if anyone on the Zone has heard of (or experienced) problems w/ the 2012 8'5" WASSUP? Reportedly some problems w/ water entering the board via the mast insert and footstrap inserts? Kinda a shame b/c all I'd ever heard about that board is that it's the ultimate one-board quiver. Wondering whether it's a widespread problem or just internet rumor.

Anybody see Magic Seaweed's new (beta) format? For frick's sake, you need a degree in meteorology/oceanography to decipher what the forecast is. I gave up and clicked on "old format". Just show me a bar graph and wind/tide chart!! (And yeah I still use a rotary phone, so what?? )

Thank God for this new subforum: Out for a quick one at my local flatwater... Got dropped in on by two yahoos, wtf! Passed by me so close I almost scuffed my Ke Nalu. Words were exchanged, and these two haoles gave chase at high speeds. We must have been going at least 3mph. Nearly took out a family of geese. Collateral damage, waterfowl-style. Serious bad vibes. I called it a sesh, live to flatwater another day. Paddled off w/ my leash b/w my legs, and nursed a cold 'Gansett in the parking lot. Got the last laugh though... slashed the run-flat tires on their Prius before I left. FLATWATER AGGRO!

Karma is a b*tch: - Murdoch to sue Lance for recovery of legal expenses incurred when Lance sued Murdoch's paper for libel - had called him a drug cheat. - Yellow bracelet dude may be facing perjury charges as well. - Johnny Hope probably going to get sued by SCA Promotions...a private insurance company that had a policy to award him $5M if he won 6 straight at TdF. SCA fought payment on grounds that his wins were ill-gotten. Judge found for Armstrong on basis that "a win is a win", regardless of methods used. SCA forced to pay out $7.5M in punitive damages.... Now, "wins" likely to be stripped. Lance will be on hook to payback SCA, which is considering suing (no brainer, there). Yikes. It's not about the bike after all. Long live the random subforum

All this talk of Leslie and the interplay of wind/waves has me a bit conFUSED... Could the more knowledgeable folks on this forum, please pipe up and enlighten me? 1. What is the relationship b/w wind and waves? Does offshore mean bigger waves? Does onshore "flatten" the waves? How 'bout sideshore? 2. What is effect of tide on wave size? Is there a "best" time to surf, if so, high tide, low tide, ebb tide, etc? Thanks for the replies. At this point, all I know is water is wet and the fin-side of the board should stay down...

Anybody out there w/ experience sailing the Starboard Drive (10'5")?
I heard it can plane, though is slow by freeride standards. Curious is this is true, or just an urban myth. Guess it depends on how much rear rocker the board has...
If anyone has experience sailing it, post your impressions? thanks -

I'm looking (at eBay) to put a new fin on my flatwater board. Which fin would give best straight-line tracking?
10" dolphin-shape 9" weed fin (seems to have more surface area than the dolphin) 10" hatchet-shape
Opinions, advice welcome. Currently I have a 8" dolphin fin on the board...

Hey all: Did my first CCBC yesterday. Wow, what an event. Big props to stoneaxe and all the others for pulling it off. Very impressive undertaking, ton of logistics involved. It was great to be a part of the massive stoke and meet so many cool people. Big thanks to boardshorts for finding me a board to make the crossing on! The pre-event at the Cabby Shack was a can't miss. Going to bed buzzed at 12:30a before the 3am wakeup? Priceless If anyone has any good photos from yesterday, I'd love to see them. I only had a camera phone on-hand... Here's my contribution, yesterday's sunrise over the Bay, great hangover remedy -- Brooks

Here goes:
I am on board #1 -- my first SUP, a 10'-6" Yolo. Bought it used, the price was right. The guy I bought it from described it as a board for the surf -- "not a harbor cruiser".
Yeah, I guess he was right. Keeping it straight while distance paddling is kind of a pain in the ass. 3-5strokes either side before I get too far off course and have to switch.
Was wondering: would a 2nd fin (skeg) placed at mid-board help w/ the tracking? I know this is not a long-term solution, but I am trying to use this board for the CCBC (34mile charity event).
During a 2hr paddle today, was thinking perhaps I could jury-rig a 2nd skeg. Any thoughts? I realize this would NOT be good in the surf....
