I once joined a fitness/training forum with the idea of losing a few pounds. So in a double play on words I combined posting on a forum with body fat (adipose tissue). I've been using it since.

Thanks for the kind words both Matt and Jim. Was that you on the green Lahui Kai Jim? I was chasing you until you went down. What happened? fin catch on the edge? I almost went down when I cut it too close a couple times. I was glad the woman on the paddleboard stopped to make sure you were OK...I slowed down to check but when I saw you climbing back up I figured it was my chance....(we need an evil grin emoticon)...
Lol, no that wasn't me who fell. I was behind you the entire way. I was on a yellow Bark. Looking at the results that must have been Pat Hull who fell in. He was about 50 yards in front of me when he fell. I saw the girl stop to check on him then I asked if he was ok when I caught up to him. He said he was then proceeded to get in front of me again. Once we rounded the island I was really trying to catch you guys. I managed to pass him with a mile or so to go but couldn't touch your lead. You stayed really consistent. I just started SUPping last August. This was my second race after The Charles a couple weeks ago. Huge amounts of fun. Jim

Bob, We don't know each other but I think I am putting 2 and 2 and 2 together here and getting 6. If the race you're talking about was the Essex on Saturday then I was the guy 40 seconds behind you THE ENTIRE WAY! I was on a 14' Bark Dominator and I just could not close the gap. I thought you did a great job. If you look at last years race results you would have won! The studs way in front Saturday are outstanding paddlers. Danger Dave was the guy drafting you so no wonder he was fresh. I tried to catch you at the finish to thank you for being my "rabbit" but you kept going to the museum take out and I waited at the finish for my friend to come in. Anyway, I thought you were strong. [The only thing I'd say is you shouldn't have let the guy on the homemade woodie gap you ] Jim

Whenever I hear of these types of mysterious missing paddler (usually kayak) stories, I wonder it was something medical (cardiac?). Leash or PFD probably wouldn't help but as pdxmike said at least you eliminate the mystery for the family. Tough situation. I wish the best for him, his family and his friends.

Great race today on the Charles. Beautiful weather, lots of fun people. 1:59 for me for the 9 miler which was where (under 2 hours) I hoped to be for my first race. Water might have been a wee bit low, three of the four of us broke fins with two of those including serious carbon damage- ouch . Didn't see anyone who looked like they might post here, we should have agreed to some sort of gang sign to recognize each other with .

Crap! To think that I lived RIGHT THERE on Pendleton for almost 4 years and never even thought about surfing. Uggg!
Nice vid. The POV from the ski is a nice change from the typical surfboard or beach shots.

Ha ha, Luke Foley got me into it. In fact that is me in his video (other thread) at 4:30. Something like my 10th time ever on any kind of surfboard.
I am coming from a rough water sea kayak/ surf kayak background. Got sick of all the "stuff" and gear that is involved in kayaking, love the simplicity of SUP.

I got interested in ring training about two years ago. After looking around for rings to buy I decided to go with 1 foot diameter rope rings (actually called grommets in the nautical world). They're made from inch and a half, 3 strand manila rope hung from cam buckle straps. They are sold on a few strength websites for as much as $150/ set. Wow! So I made my own for about 70 bucks including straps. This is the set I made using these directions http://scouting1659.org/minnow/doc/minto/HOW%20TO-%20Make%20a%20Rope%20Grommet.pdfand a 12 foot piece of rope.

Hey Bob, I'd be totally into doing that. I am coming from a sea kayaking background and am just getting into SUP. I am totally hooked, like crack. I have been surfing all winter but want to start doing some flat-ish water (you know what I mean) paddling. I am in Westport, not too far away. Keep me posted. Thanks

That is not only a cool wave to surf but apparently the first confirmed worm-hole found on earth.
