I'm in. I did the 9 last year will again this year. I was all set to sign up for the 6 last year but was told by a regular that the 9 is easier than the 6 because the wind is usually somewhere from behind and the current always is. Half of the 6 is up-wind (usually) and up-current. Fun race.

I don't know if it is the "fastest" but it is insanely fast. http://speedboardusa.com/speedboards/14-elite-racer/215 shouldn't be a problem, I paddled it last summer at about 200lbs. I think they are discounting last year's leftovers.

Broken ribs.
Last November, learning to surf in closeout chest high waves at Coast Guard beach I fell forward and the board flipped 90 degrees. I landed directly on the rail with my ribs, broke two of them.
This happened four days before I was scheduled to have my knee scoped for a tear. I was under orders to take nothing for pain or the knee surgery would be cancelled. I suffered the worst pain in my life for four days before I could get into the percacets and 800 motrins I had waiting for me post op.

+2 with teamalty. I bend over forward, try to keep an upper body profile close to that of a cyclist doing a time trial. I also choke down on the paddle and take short choppy strokes as mentioned. It is tiring but hey it's paddling into the wind.

Nice! Beautiful spot. What cable are you using to go from the gopro to the iPad?

Everyone is motivated by different things, they are all good. I have a friend who is into running. I know she counts and tracks her miles and loves hitting weekly, monthly and yearly mileage goals. She keeps charts and graphs of it all. I have run with her 3 or 4 times in the last two months. Three weeks ago we did a trail loop in the woods. When we got back to the car she said, “That’s another 4 miles. I’m up to 457 miles for the year.” I looked at my iPhone running the MotionX gps App and reluctantly told her that we had actually run only 3.4 miles. She got defensive and said, “The trail map for that loop says 4 miles.” We looked at it and it actually read, ‘approximately’ 4 miles. When I do that loop the GPS always says 3.4 miles. Her entire yearly log was suddenly off by 6/10ths of a mile for each time she ran that loop. And if that loop mileage was wrong, what else in her meticulous recordings was wrong? The solid world under her feet suddenly became a bit shaky and unreliable. She actually seemed very upset that her meticulous tracking was not as “real” as she had believed. I felt bad so I pointed to the phone and quickly said, “Ah this thing is probably wrong, just go with the 4.”
When I'm on the water I am just enjoying the gift of being there.

If anyone is interested, I'll be at South Shore Beach (little compton) around 8:30 am tomorrow for a short paddle to a surf (hopefully) spot.

Thanks again guys and ADDAPOST thats the exact configuration I was looking it on their website, which handle/grip did you get? I was thinking about the ergo T? Thoughts on that one vs. the others? What handle is everyone else using?
It has the ergo. I am going to get the extended handle before race season starts and use that for racing boards.

My wife let me buy my own christmas present. So three weeks ago I got a... you guessed it... Ke Nalu. With my other (brand name deleted) paddle, my shoulders were always F'ed up after every session. Became aware of the Ke Nalu's here and got to try one last spring. Hooked! Even though it is easy to think there is some sort of cool-aid drinking cult surrounding the brand, that is not the case; these are incredible pieces of engineering. I will be using this on the CCBC.
PDLSFR, We are only a few miles away from each other, you are welcome to try mine. I have a Maliko Elite 90 flex cut to about 78 inches.

So... Does anyone have any advice on shortening a Nitro??
I've searched and it sounds like I'd need to cut the shaft 2 1/4 inches below the top of the shaft to miss the bottom of the handle. Ideally I'd like to test out smaller increments so I may try to use heat to loosen the handle instead of cutting the shaft below the handle.
Any experience with doing that on a Werner?
Also, any reason why I couldn't steal the Ke Nalu technique of using hot glue instead of epoxy on a Werner?
I like the idea of shortening incrementally and the hot glue would seem to make that easier.
Thanks!
I just used a hair dryer to heat up the shaft where the handle inserts and was able to melt the factory glue on my Nitro. From then on I just used cheap craft store hot glue and have had no problem. I've removed the handle 2 or 3 times to progressively shorten the shaft. Just use the hair dryer to melt the glue. As far as cutting, I just threw some tape around the shaft to keep the cut clean and used a hack saw, nothing fancy.

Picked up a new Ke Nalu paddle yesterday and named her Miss K. Took it for a test paddle right away in the first swell we've seen since Thanksgiving. Documented the maiden trip and edited up a little clip. Somewhere in Rhode Island....

5' 8" 185# 90% surf Just joined the cult err I mean club TODAY! Picked up an elite Maliko on a 90 flex shaft. Currently cut to 10 inches overhead but I will cut it another 2 inches for surf when I can pick up the extended handle for racing/ distance.
