I had the good fortune of acquiring an 11'4 and 10'6.5 before the cold sets in hard.

I wanted a board that I could scratch in from the outside better than I am able with my 9-2 Allwave. Jim K saved me from getting the Nalu 10'10.  As my focus is the surf, the 10'10 was both heavier and wider that either of these two. There was a comment that the 10'10 was a 'wave thief' but these more remind me of an old 'performance longboard' I have.   My timidity on late takeoffs and basic ability are serious shortcomings in our local dumpy conditions. These longer boards well out number shorter boards here - probably for a reason.

I remember Dwight's (DW) comment about the pleasing rocker in Naish boards.  To my old art school eye, the 11'4 is particularly beautiful.  The 10'6.5 seems a bit more flat but I have not put a stick to either.  I learned a new word 'foil' .. the thickness of a board along its length.  The Nalu is remarkable compared to an 11' coal barge I bought (and sold quickly) earlier this year.  It appears it must be easier to make a board in China where the nose is as thick as an inflatable than thin it out like these Naish'.

I only got one chance to surf the 10'6.5 on a shoulder high, 8sec swell so far.  I would call the Nalu 'graceful'.  It calmly slides onto the shoulder without any alarm bells going off in my head.  At 30" wide, the first go-out was a tippy exercise compared to the Allwave.  I found I needed to stand farther forward than I expected and improved as I relaxed about a 1/2 hour into the session.  (personal stats: 5'11 x 180lbs .. 10lbs less than when I started SUP)

I have paddled both boards in flat water.  It may be 'last tried' bias, but I love to paddle the 10'6'5.  It is seated in the water better for me at 160L versus the 11'4 at 180L.  Both track well and keeping a bow wave is pretty easy.  ..the 9-2 Allwave is no drogue in flat water but not as much fun/fast as these.    ..it's a small thing, but the Naish deck pads are very comfortable.

Go to a junkyard and look for some decent small SUV racks and have a body shop mount them.  Like this...

Foo,   Maybe, like YouTube, these shots are dumb'd down to save bandwidth?   These are newtimes however. It seems saturation and sharpness are the micro brews of modern photography.  Many decades back I was a purist - Only B/W for me! (like short SUPs .. I also could not process color)

DF, I am sure the forward marketing people at all these companies ('cept maybe Nokia and Blackberry) recognize the opportunity to pound the last nail in Kodak's coffin.

Dwight,  It looks like a other GoPro style paid-plant. Notice all these shots are taken in places were there's little likelihood of cell service.

Jill,  Have you put your phone underwater.  ..not free diving for depth, but submerged?

55N,  Nice to see SONY's name come up.

I have shot/processed film with TLRs and SLRs ..and lots of digital stuff since, but it looks like I just might junk my flip phone with 8,000 minutes for a new 'camera'.

I've never heard of Austin Mann before, but if this is what an iPhone 5s can do then I am in.  It's cheaper than the L lens on my Canon and fits in my pocket.  Here's some background on this shot.

So, if you know Tim.. tell him some geezer needs a WP model before he runs out of time.

Sounds wonderful.. a proper Wet Cam.  The only problem I see is weight: 19oz/540g with included lens vs a typical sports cam at 7oz/200g. You are going to need something like this to keep from inducing nausea in your viewers.  If you are expecting to have fun ..and taking pics.

It's got to make great shots tho'... Sports you need to post some pics!

SUPitt.. (doesn't work for Xenia, OH)  I got some of this about a month ago but the can is still in the box.  It seems like a great idea but fiddly.. compared to rail tape.  And 3M always wants to up sell you; "Would you like our, special tape with that order?"

AKC..  I would guess, while driving, heat is being pulled away by the wind. (swamp cooler effect)  If stationary for long periods, it might be wise to pull the board out of the bag and place the cover atop the board - double the insulation, board out of the sweatsuit and you still get protection from the Sun.

Or get some of the newer waxes or glaze the slammed Honda kids use - polish the bottom -  bottom up when not standing upon. They have UV absorbers that waxes of old did not.

..educated guesses.

"One thing though, the wave on takeoff looks so different from up high."  ..good point Baja.  I have been intimidated standing on the ledge on a Shoulder to HH wave staring into the pit. Most of our waves are very quick to close, so it's difficult for me to gin up the nerve to go-for-it.  When I was proning, 15yrs ago my CG was very low and I wasn't wrestling with balance as I am with SUP.  Surf kiting was easier than both with instant acceleration available, but that damn kite wants to kill you at all times so it was not as leisurely.

No complaints however.. I would not get up in the morning if there was not some challenge in front of me.  This is the funnest.

I agree with supuk, many mfgrs. really slack when they apply tracktop.  Exocet, Naish and a few seem to know we are visual animals. If not, our first wives would look like #3.

I also like the 'wedges' Rick did .. smart.
