Gear Talk / Re: SUP ATX HR Soft Tops and Yoga board
« on: April 01, 2012, 05:12:42 PM »
I have the Riviera Voyager and the NSP 11.0 x 31 x 4-1/4. I have done yoga on both boards and prefer the Voyager due to the stability. NSP makes a 11'6" x 33 x 4-3/4.  The NSP 11'6" is at the same price point as the Riviera Voyager and the Voyager is more versatile. You mentioned you'd "like to buy a fleet of flat water boards". The Voyager will be more versatile for your customers giving them a great flat water paddling experience compared to the NSP. Why not get a mix of of NSP and Riviera?

The Riviera Voyager on the other hand is really nice and stable, but they have a small deck pad and will not allow people to stretch into positions at the center of the board.  I do carry Riviera but for your purpose maybe just the Riv 11'6 with the 3/4 pad would work better, not the voyager. (though the voyager paddles extremely nice). Check with a local dealer to see them in person.
I have to disagree with you regarding the Voyager not working. The Voyager has a 7 foot long deck pad and a consistent 5-1/4 inch thickness through the deck. I'm 6' (190 lbs) and do yoga on my Voyager without any issues. Try one out and see what you think. Don't under estimate the Voyager. It's a very versitle board.

You will be happy with NSP but I would also look at Riviera. Riviera has the Voyager that may be a great board for you as well as a great price.

Looks like a Kanaha all carbon. What is the width of the blade? Are you the seller or perspective buyer? http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/spo/2911230007.html

Gear Talk / Re: SUP Sports house brand board opinions?
« on: February 20, 2012, 02:42:50 PM »
@Medic - Just flat water paddling.  She's never spent any time in the ocean, much less the surf, and I don't think she's interested in that.  She does enjoy paddling in the bay with me, and her stamina surprised me from the first time she went!

@S. Westerly - I weigh in at 220 as well, looks like I'll have to give it a go when I get down to SB.  Thanks for the info!

If she's not going to surf then don't get her a full planning (surfing style) hull. Get her a displacement board. She will have sooooo much more fun. Look at the Riviera Voyager http://www.rivierapaddlesurf.com/collections/riviera/products/riviera-126-voyager-stand-up-paddle-board-w-handle-traction. I just bought on for my wife for the same reason and she loves it. At full retail or $1100 it seems like a good deal. You could also look for a used race board. Sometimes you'll find a great deal if you look hard enough.

I want to get my wife a board for her birthday.  She's only paddled a handful of times, primarily on my Blair 10'1".  She does really well but complains that she doesn't like switching the paddle every stroke or two because the Blair doesn't track so well.  I know as her skills increase she'll do better, but I want her to have the easiest learning experience possible.

I'm seriously considering SUP Sports 11'1" One World for her.  Anyone have experience with their house brand re quality, durability, flat water performance and tracking?  I've been in contact with Wardog, he's helpful and seems like a good guy to do business with, just looking for outside opinions.

Is your wife going to need a board for surfing or just cruising?

Gear Talk / Re: review of the Ke Nalu (Pono Bill) paddle
« on: February 01, 2012, 10:52:25 PM »
I've been experimenting with shortening my paddle a little to enable a little more core engagement. I now have the length set so my upper arm is slightly less than parallel to the board with max reach and the neck of the paddle at the rail."

Hey Bill, How much shorter did you go? I'm using your Maliko and Molokai at 84 inches and I'm looking at going 2 to 4 inches shorter for racing and training. For reference I'm 5'11" and used Dave Kalama's method of paddle length (handle in palm at full vertical arm reach when standing).

Hey I thought I was the 1st! Just kidding.
Bill,  I'm not going to baffle you with bull shit. I first bought a Molokai and was blown away by the performance. I have recently purchased a Maliko and again was blown away. I use them for both distance and surf paddling. I've found performance improvements in every area with your paddles. I have used Kialoa, QuickBlade, Riveria and Werner paddles. All of them are now for sale. Oh, and the paddle bags, great job! Anyone considering a Ke Nalu paddle just pull the trigger. You won't regret it.

Gear Talk / I'm looking for feedback on a Ron House 12'6" Race Board

I'm looking for feedback on a Epoxy Ron House 12'6" Race Board. I'm 185 and will be using it in all ocean conditions. Is it a good stable all around design?

Gear Talk / Re: 404 Durability
« on: November 02, 2011, 04:04:27 PM »
I've got a 404 12'6" and have had no problems with dings. I've put plenty of paddle scuffs on it that are easily removed with 600 grit wet sanding. The 404's and Ron House epoxy 12'6"'s have the same build up. There are many other boards but with the same or lighter build ups. Have you looked a Ron's carbon board? Here's a link to build info; http://www.rivierapaddlesurf.com/pages/about

Gear Talk / Re: Zephyr 14 reviews?
« on: October 13, 2011, 11:07:32 PM »
I had a 12'6" Zephyr that was a great ride. I did ride a 14' and it had great glide. You won't go wrong with the 14'. I did not go with the 14" for purely storage reasons. At your weight you will fly. What year? 2010 and newer had nice tall noses on them.

Gear Talk / 404 Monster 12'6" vs Bark Competitor 12'6"
« on: October 06, 2011, 12:51:29 PM »
Looking to get a racing / training board. Has anyone out there used these 2 boards? Have any good info? I've looked at a few reviews of the 404 and a few have said the glide is lacking but can't back it up with any GPS info. So is the lack of glide a perception or reality. I'm thinking with these 2 boards it's the "Indian not the arrow". I will be using the board in all conditions.

Gear Talk / Re: kids paddle
« on: August 20, 2011, 06:09:54 PM »
My train of thought is that if you think the kid is going to be serious about dropping into the sport, then getting him or her a real paddle like Kialoa or the flyweight QB will get them tuned into what a real blade is and how to stroke.  Yeah they cost but you can pass it on to someone else's kid when yours outgrows theirs.  If they have a low attention span and move from one thing to another, then just about anything will do... a broom?

I totally agree. I got my girls the Quick blade flyweight FG adjustable. Best $200 I've spent,

Gear Talk / Re: Want to get a 12'6" Race Board. Bark Competitor?
« on: August 04, 2011, 10:35:04 PM »
Thanks for all the input. I'm going to hold off on the 14'Dominator till the 2012's are out. I'm getting a used Competitor in the meantime.
