Training, Diet, and Fitness / Re: Sugar is sneaky bad....
« on: December 21, 2018, 06:42:12 PM »
Last yr I was forced into elimenating most all sugar from my diet.    After 3 months many of the aches and joint pain were gone or leaving.   After 6 months I could tell a hugh difference in how I felt.   I mentioned this to my doc during a physical, his reply was if all his patients over 55 ( I"m 66 ) would go sugar free most of their joints issues would go away.    THis yr my doc also found my uric acid levels were way to high.   With his help I have lowered it to below normal which also helps with joint pain.    Best I have felt in yrs.   Truth be known I really miss the CC cookies, ice cream etc.    I will go with less pain !  =  more water time !

All of the guys on the big wave tour and those who are out in mountains on their own have an unparalled
degree of bravery and skill.   All one has to do sit in the channel on 20 ft plus day anywhere and it will quickly become all to real what these guy and gals do !    Fun to watch & admire !    Riding moving mountains of water !

Currently using one of the old Werner blue fiberglass nitro models,  Im guessing 95 or 100sq inch from 2010 of 11.   I do like the longer length over the short one I use in the surf.   I am not doing any racing, just touring long distance for fun.   I usually have one spreed, fun and more fun unless Im being chased in the water by a 4000 lb elephant seal for entering his feedimg area.

Gear Talk / Re: Different Quad templates...
« on: December 18, 2018, 12:55:00 PM »
I took the dimensions off of various manfactured boards, they all seem to be a little different based on the board design.   Toe in, distance between fronts and back distance from tail, distance from rail.    I took a North Pacific 10 ft round pin Thruster / 2+1 design and added a set of rear boxs converting it to a quad.
I was stuck with the location of the front boxes and I positioned the rears 1.25 in of the rail and matched the front of the rear boxes with the dimensions taken of off a happy medium from a multitude boards.   It seems to work well so far.

Next issue is finding the right fin size that fits the size of board and bottom type, tail width.   I have found after yrs of testing surfboards and sups, different fins sizes and shapes, it easy to run to big a fin.   Remember to add all the fins area and compare that with the 2+1 set or single.   lots of fun if your into R&D    Lots of info on line from a host of designers.
The most interesting fins I tried were Aysemtrical Controlers,  worked well in fast larger hollow waves but were stiff in slower mushier waves.   I setteled on what worked best in 80% of the conditons I go out in.   Then every once in a while I change out everything out just to shake things up !    Enjoy your quest !

Interesting replies, thnaks.   After returning from a 1 hr paddle in smooth flat water in comparison to 1 hr paddle in open rough seas, the results vary from day to day.    Some days the mind body and soul all agree, it was fun, exhausting and exciting !    Other days it was just a breeze !     I used to stay out for hrs.   Somewhere along the path I became lazy.   Time to step it up again !!!!!!

Paddle on !!!!!

In flat water 90 % of the time I am on my 12 FT PSH gun that has lots of glide.   Paddling the longer board has to have a more positive feel.   I kind of slacked off the last 6 months chasing waves, now I'm interested in getting back into the longer paddles.    Longer solo paddles have spiritual benefits as well physical.   Thanks for the info !

Which is a better way to guage a good work out, distance or time ?   Usually in smooth in water with little to no wind.  I use to do 45 min to an hr sometimes 1 1/2 every other day.   I use those days to keep prepped for the days the waves get good.

Im 5'10" 200 lbs pretty good shape, what area size paddle 90-100 sq" are people using for flat water ?   I have my preferred surf paddle dialed.

Thanks

At what decibel level would the  OH Sh_T #**&^ range of a macker be reached ?

20 ft macker  = ____   decibels

30 ft macker  =_____  decibels

40 ft macker  =_____  decibels

Then there is the question of the difference between delta T of the Warm water Macker vs Cold water macker !
