I have a buddy who's trying to get Colin to build him a wider vers I believe Mark Johnson designed the CM SUP’s. I think you can contact him at mjohnson@hobie.com and have him adjust the stock CM board shape to your specks.

The Hobie site does not even discuss the bottom, rocker etc. This is the 9’8” CMLB not the 10’6,” but still gives some great info on the dimensions of the Hobie CMLB series.

+1 for the Topless Boardbag. I’ve gotten two of them, and they work great. Although I got my straight from Geno at Topless Boardbag. I believe he makes them for Victory(?).

mtmilam, that first drawing of yours instantly reminded me of that photo sequence in an old Surfer Mag of a couple of guys trying to take off on a very large wave at Ala Moana Bowls on an 18’ Hobie Cat and completely stuffing it. If I remember correctly, I think the deck got ripped away from the hull. Tried doing a search online to find the photos, but no luck. It was truly classic!

Thanks capobeachboy. The board looks nice as a quad, but for a travel board, I think a tri-fin would be more suitable to a variety of conditions.

Wow. That looks like the ultimate travel board. Any photos of the bottom? What's the fin set-up on that board? How much does it Weigh? What's the approx. dimensions when it is deflated? Is it compact enough for carry-on luggage?

Go longer while paddling to your local break then go shorter as you enter the surf zone. Once you’ve dialed in your preferred paddle lengths for surfing and flat water, this is the best reason/need for a good quality paddle that can adjust while out on the water.

Thanks for posting those photos firesurf. I really enjoyed them. I grew up in Southern California, and have great memories of camping trips at the beach parks. For many years, starting in 1954, our family spent our summer vacations camped at Doheny State Beach.

Sometimes I use the pool noodles, and sometimes I use pipe foam insulation tubes. The pipe foam is less than 2 bucks at Home depot for a six foot piece. Both fit my round Yakima racks perfectly.

Saw these photos over on IG. My first thought; That is one beautiful board! Then I saw the dimensions. Wow, with that shape, that’s a lot of board! Really pushing the limits of how far you can go with this shape. Bet it will catch the slightest of bumps, even if they don’t break! I imagine it will scream down the line on a point break wave. Curious how it witll react if you want to change direction. I wonder if that thing will turn? I could see adding a couple of wings in the tail to step it down in width. Anxiously awaiting reports on how it goes!

Ask yourself how many airplane wings or cars or anything else designed with aerodynamics in mind have dimples. If they had any positive effect on wings Boeing would have them all over their airplanes.
There have been lots of experimenting with dimples on the bottom of surf vehicles over the years. Which seems to make sense. But as Weasels wake points out, how you want the bottom of your board to perform may not be the same as how you want the side of your fin to perform.
